TVA 2015 Green Power Program Now Open!

TVA Green Power Providers
TVA's Green Power Providers program is open January 26-February 13. TVA will randomly select projects if the program is oversubscribed.

For projects in the 2015 program, TVA will pay a premium rate of two cents for solar generation. For a typical commercial system of 50 kilowatts, the average annual revenue for the first 10 years is approximately $9,100 per year. Over TVA's 20 year term, estimated solar revenue is over $203,000!

2015 is the last year TVA will pay a premium.

If you don't apply before February 13, you will still have a chance to get in the program as capacity becomes available. However, TVA has allocated only 7.33 megawatts (MW) of capacity for commercial projects and 4MW for residential projects, so the earlier you apply, the better your chance of approval.  Contact us to get started!

2 Year Payback for Commercial Solar Now Possible

LightWave Solar has partnered with regional bank BB&T to increase solar investment among small and medium sized business owners.

"Not every business wants to wait six or seven years to see upside from their solar investment," explains Brian Bickel, Director of Sales and Marketing at LightWave Solar.

"Some of our clients prefer to finance the portion of system cost that remains after the first year tax incentives are recouped. In most cases, this allows for positive cash flow in year two," says Bickel.

Take a look at the graph below that shows the cumulative benefit of financing the portion of system cost that remains after first year tax incentives are recouped. System payback time is 2 years!  Contact us to learn more.

If You Needed More Reasons to Go Solar...

Besides tax incentives, TVA payments and environmental benefits, here are some added benefits of solar that can help businesses and homeowners save or generate money:

  1. Roof/Building Cooling: According to a UC San Diego study, solar panels on rooftops keep buildings an average of 5°F cooler during the day. The cooling effect of rooftop solar panels means that a building will consume less energy from air conditioning.
  2. Roof Protection: Solar panels protect roofs from UV rays, rain, and hail. Remember the big hailstorms in Nashville in 2012 that damaged roofs and dented cars? We received no reports of damaged solar panels, but a few of our customers had roof damage around their solar panels.
  3. Positive Public Relations & Marketing OpportunitiesSolar helps companies show their commitment to the environment! This increases brand value, can generate press coverage, demonstrate industry leadership, and improve community relations.  In fact, there are several studies that show when companies make green improvements and tell consumers or shareholders about it, sales and/or stock values rise.
  4. Additional LEED points: Solar helps building owners rack up points for LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Certification. Solar parking canopies offer even more points for shade and rainwater collecting.
