Award-winning International speaker, author & mental health advocate, Kevin Hines has devoted his life to suicide prevention after miraculously surviving his own attempt on his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge in 2001.

 

Since, he has received a lifetime achievement award for his work. His memoir will be released in the summer of 2013.

Storm is the recipient of the National Crime Victim Law Institute's 2012 Gail Burns-Smith Excellence in Victim Services Award. She was also a victim's advocate for several of the victims of Jerry Sandusky during his trial.  

Jennifer currently serves as Executive Director of the Victim Witness Assistance Program. She is also the author of several books, the most recent:

The Echoes of Penn State: Facing Sexual Trauma.

As the Executive Director of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), a national non-profit agency working to prevent suicide and help suicide survivors and those suffering with depression, Dan speaks passionately on the importance of mental wellness. Dan has been interviewed by several  media outlets and has been a keynote speaker and guest lecturer, and presented numerous workshops locally and nationally.

 

SUICIDE is the THIRD LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR 11-21 YEAR-OLDS.

For a quarter of individuals with mood disorders like depression, these first emerge during adolescence.

BETWEEN 1999-2008 28,150 OF THESE YOUNG PEOPLE DIED BY SUICIDE.

20% of adolescents have a diagnosable mental health disorder.
 
20-30% of adolescents have one major depressive episode before they reach adulthood.

BETWEEN 500,000 & ONE MILLION YOUNG PEOPLE ATTEMPT SUICIDE EACH YEAR.

An estimated 67-70% of youth in the juvenile justice system have a diagnosable mental health disorder.

Between 25% and 33% of adolescents forgo needed care.

RATES OF SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS AMONG HOMELESS YOUTH RANGE FROM 19% TO 50%.

There is a high prevalence of depressive symptoms, suicidal thoughts & suicide attempts among adolescents who forgo care due to confidentiality concerns.

Only 45% of adolescents surveyed would seek care for depression if parental notification were required.
