YORK TALK | July 2014

CLIENT SERVICES TRANSITION

Phil Murphy, one of YORK's longest tenured staff and most revered client service directors is moving back into the lab to run the general chemistry department!

As many of you know from working with Phil, his specific expertise is in wet chemistry and microbiology.

What you probably didn't know is that Mr. Murphy is a certified lab director and is one of Connecticut's most experienced environmental biology and water chemistry experts.

As you've seen in recent newsletters YORK continues to make significant investments in technology,
quality control, and client service to stay at the forefront of the increasingly sophisticated challenges of wet chemistry projects in this region.

Phil's transition to this important position is part of YORK's commitment t
o ensure clients continue to have reliable access with YORK senior staff.

Jill Duhancik has relinquished her duties as reporting manager and will be work full-time as a senior member of the client services group.

Jill is a graduate of St. Joseph College with a B.S. in both Biology and Environmental Sciences, and has more than a decade of experience as a client service manager here at York (and previously at another environmental laboratory).

Please remember to always send inquiries to: [email protected]

This is the best way to alert the whole client service team and insure that your message has "eyes" on it ASAP.

For real-time scheduling of sample pick-ups and bottle drop-offs, please use the order form on our website (www.yorklab.com) or the new YORK Smartphone Web-App (available for download at our website).

NYC Office of Environmental Remediation (OER)
There has been a significant amount of online noise regarding NYC's OER and the Brownfield Cleanup Program. Tax credits were set to expire at the end of 2015, but a 15-month extension has been settled. This allows lucrative tax breaks to developers who clean up and build on qualified contaminated sites to be extended into March of 2017. New brownfield sites are still being approved and the state has more time to negotiate reforms to the program.

Official info on the NYCOER can be found
here.

Last month, Dr. Daniel Walsh, NYC OER and the New York City Brownfield Partnership held a walking tour of brownfield projects along the Highline Park.

What is an "Individually Certified Summa Canister"?

During the first half of 2014, we have seen a significant increase in requests for
"individually certified summa canisters" when conducting TO-15 analyses for clients. This certification requires the lab to perform an actual TO-15 analysis on each canister after cleaning which is beyond the typical evacuation, cleaning and batch certification that YORK performs.  The extra step requires additional prep time when fulfilling a client order for summa air canisters. This certification must be requested in advance and is clearly cited in the analyses report.

In anticipation of a high volume of air testing for NYC
agencies this summer, YORK will have a small number of individually certified cans always ready for last minute client requests.

In the case that you are working with the NYC School Construction Authority this summer, YORK is one of the few audited and approved laboratories by the NYC SCA for TO-15 and has the resources to hand-deliver summa cans to job sites in the NYC area.

Clients should use YORK's "Air-specific" Chain of Custody when ordering TO-15 work. Click here to access the easy to use, downloadable copy.

YORK WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY, JULY 4, 2014

Let us know if you have any special needs for sample pick-up so that we can work to accommodate your request.  Courier service will end by noon on July 3.

Please plan accordingly for short holding time parameters and to ensure results are received when needed. Holidays do not count as a "business day" when calculating analysis turn-around-time. You'll want to turn in samples earlier in the week.

"Charlie Hustle" hits the diamond in Bridgeport!

Pete Rose and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch.
Fans and media (ESPN did on-field interview) traveled far and wide on Monday, June 16th to see Pete Rose back in baseball for one more night.

Pete managed the Bluefish and coached 1st base for the first 5 innings and even got into an argument with the umpire on a strike call.

The 73-year-old Rose with the most hits in major league history (4,256 hits) helped "lead" our Bridgeport Bluefish in their 2-0 win against the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Come on out to York and catch a game with us!
