YORKtalk Music:  Sounds of the Lab

soundspic2

Wondering what you're listening to when you open our website?

We decided to have some fun with the sounds of the lab and put together a collage of recordings of the laboratory instrumentation.

Some of the instruments you hear include the HP 7673 Autosample Injector, the Agilent 7100A Preconcentrator w/ LN2, and the Environmental Sample Technology INC Archon Autosampler.

Stay tuned in July for the new featured website track from YORK's
own Robert Q. Bradley!

NYS DER-10 & New Air Sampling Requirements

summyq

We continue to field questions regarding New York State's DER-10 related to their new EDD (see blog post) and air sampling requirements.

With TO-15 air testing requests on the rise in 2011, we thought it would be helpful to provide specific references to soil vapor and other air sampling in the 266 page DER-10 document.  To view our summary as well as a list of helpful references in regards to air sampling in the DER-10 please visit our blog.

For guidance relative to recommended sampling protocols, quality assurance/quality control of sampling and updates to sampling requirements, the most recent NYSDOH guidance document should be used (click here for link to this document).

NEW Air Specific Chain of Custody

A new air-specific chain of custody has been developed and made available for clients in the Downloads section of YORK's website ( click here).
This chain of custody has been designed to help clients provide all the necessary details the laboratory needs to best analyze air samples.

If you have questions, please contact YORK via email (click here).

New YORKtalk Video On Chain-of-Custody
Features YORK's Rich August

Easy-to-play and interesting, and perhaps fun (at times), informational videos will be posted on the YORK website as a way to enhance communications with the people that matter most.

The video (click here to watch) is a 3-minute review of the mostly obvious, but critically important and often overlooked, elements needed on a chain richof custody document.

For more on Rich, click here to visit our staffing page.

Sample Pickup & Bottle Delivery Calendar

One of the features that we've added to our new website is an easy to use sample pickup and bottle delivery interactive calendar located on the bottom left of our homepage.

The scheduling button is an efficient tool that provides a checklist of important information including the most commonly requested bottles and preservatives that allows us to complete projects as quickly as possible.

As always you can still e-mail clientservices@yorklab.com for sample pickups and bottle deliveries, but we're trying to move toward this more efficient system.

Please share the site with your team and give it a try!

NEW CT General Permit for the Discharge of Stormwater

Effective October 1st 2011 there will be a new Connecticut General Permit for the Discharge of Stormwater associated with industrial activity.

The goal of this permit is to provide a streamlined method for the regulated community (such as marinas, boatyards, and yacht clubs) to be in compliance with the requirements of the federal and state Clean Water Acts without the cost, time and effort involved in obtaining individual discharge permits. For more information on major changes from the past permit  click here.

We have been in touch with the EPA recently and have learned that the new permit will require marinas and boatyards to double their stormwater testing.  YORK is increasingly working with marinas along the CT coast, Long Island Sound, and Hudson River to provide professional testing reports to meet increasing regulatory demands.  Click here to read more on this story.
