YORK Expands TO-15 Air Analysis Laboratory

Due to increased demand and new influential regulations (such NYS DER-10), YORK has expanded its TO-15 air analysis laboratory with state-of-the art instrumentation and equipment that dramatically expands its capacity, while meeting detection limit needs.

YORK has steadily grown its air analysis laboratory over the last twenty-years to meet and exceed the requirements of state and federal environmental regulations and private industry.

For more on YORK's expertise in TO-15 and other air analyses, click here to be redirected to the TO-15 Air Analysis section of YORK's website.

The latest investment in equipment -- new summa cans, flow controllers, auto samplers and GC/MS systems -- allows YORK to service more clients and larger projects with reliable and easy to use sampling systems.

YORK's new air canister autosampler (pictured left) allows the air team to analyze large numbers of summa cans at one time.  This "air tree" is needed for large projects that require fast turnaround.  In addition to increasing YORK's ability to handle more air projects, larger quantity requests and expedited turnaround, investments have been made in the most advanced gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and preconcentrator available to detect  volatile organics in air.

NYS DEC Enforcing New Guidelines

This month, YORK is seeing an increased application and enforcement of the guidance document DER-10 released by the NYS DEC in June 2010.

This document has become the authoritative regulation on how to characterize the nature and extent of contamination at a New York site and how to design an appropriate work plan to investigate and remediate a contaminated site.

There have been significant changes to the laws governing contaminated site cleanup since DER-10 was first published in draft form in December 2002 -- including the elimination of both TAGMS and STARS programs.

First YORKtalk Video On Summa Cans Features YORK's Phil Murphy

Easy-to-play and interesting, and perhaps fun (at times), informational videos will be posted on the YORK website as a way to enhance communications with the people that matter most.

The first....drum roll please....YORKtalk video features YORK's Lab Operations Manager-- Phil Murphy -- who is know by all who have worked with YORK through the years.  For more on Phil click here.

The video (click here to watch) features Phil discussing and demonstrating important "Do's & Don't's" of working with YORK on TO-15 air analysis.  In addition there is a fun dramatization of a field technician finishing up her day after air sampling with summa cans.

(A special thanks to YORK's Kyle and Jen for starring in this episode.)

YORK Has Developed EDD for new NYS DEC Mandate

Effective immediately, all data submitted to the NYS DEC must be in the DEC-approved Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD).

This EDD, which uses EQuIS software, is available for download to environmental professionals from the DEC website (click here for more at the NYS DEC website).

YORK has talked with the NYS DEC and developed an EDD for the lab analyses results portion of these reports that can be easily plugged into the client portions of the EDD submission.  If you will be preparing an EDD for this new state requirement, please be sure to notify YORK on the Chain of Custody form, and provide your NYS DEC submitter code and name.

Click here for the rest of this story at the YORKtalk blog.

Contact YORK's Rich August via email if you have questions regarding our EDD.

I hope that you enjoyed reading YORKtalk and our new website.  If you have any questions or comments please contact us via email or phone 203-325-1371.

Please pass this newsletter to your colleagues...thank you!
