 Greetings!

August has arrived...and you all know what that means!   It is the happiest time of the year in our vineyards:  HARVEST TIME!!  With moderate temperatures ushering us into the month, we hope to see grapes ripen at a nice leisurely pace, with whites being ready first, then the reds.  We expect to see fruit coming in the next 2-3 weeks....

Cheers,
The Bogle Family & Staff

BOGLE'S SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

Six Generations and Counting...

CCSW Logo

The Bogle family has recently received re-certification for sustainability with respect to both our winery and vineyard operations with the Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing designation. Developed by the Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) as an educational program to help growers and vintners increase adoption of sustainable practices, the California Sustainable Winegrowing Program consists of a workbook which requires assessments in 15 different categories.   These categories range from energy efficiency and water conservation to human resources practices and community involvement.

"The CCSW was the first statewide certification program to be offered to both wineries and vineyards," says vice-president Ryan Bogle, who coordinates the certification process for the winery. "It is currently the only industry-wide certification program for wineries.  Bogle is proud that both our winery and our vineyards qualify for this CCSW certification once again this year."

What does this mean for someone purchasing a bottle of Bogle?  You can feel confident knowing that Bogle is working hard to use conservation methods throughout the winemaking process, from vineyards to vinting to bottling and packaging.  Says Ryan, "This means that as a family, we continue to strive to operate our business sustainably for generations to come!"

It's the happiest time of year for Phantom phans!  This year, the winery ghost outdid himself with this seductive and haunting vintage...

This ruby red spectre entices with rich blackberry and briary boysenberry. Provocative dark fruits envelop the nose and palate, leaving the essence of flavors brought forth by the grapes during winemaking. Black cherry and anise abound, leading to a sturdy finish of black pepper, pipe tobacco and spicy oak. Aged for over two years in 1 and 2 year old American oak focus and intensify the Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Mourvdre, creating yet another passionate and

commanding red wine, impossible to ignore.

Availability: At our tasting room in Clarksburg, as well as at wine shops and retailers across the country!

DESSERT DELIGHT: Wine Cake
Shared with us by John Hokans, long time wine club member, John raves about this cake made with dessert wine.  He suggests the 2010 Bogle Orange Muscat, but we think the Bogle Petite Sirah Port would be delish too!

Ingredients:

1 package yellow cake mix

3/4 cup oil, butter flavor if you can find it

1 pkg instant vanilla pudding

3/4 cup dessert wine

4 eggs

1 tsp. nutmeg

Cooking instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Put all ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat at medium speed for 5 minutes.
  • Pour into a greased angel food cake pan and bake 45 minutes.  Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with the rest of the dessert wine, some fresh berries and whipped cream.
