You've got to hear this!

I am pleased to announce that

Christopher Rusk has accepted the call to become St. John's Organist/ Choirmaster for our 11am Traditional Eucharist.  His first Sunday will be February 8.  In Christopher's words, "It is an absolute blessing and honor to accept such a call.  I'm honestly very excited to begin this journey with you and the parish."

Christopher studied organ and harpsichord performance as well as music theory for four years under Gavin Black at Westminster Choir College's Conservatory of Music in Princeton, New Jersey.  He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology at Belmont Abbey College (Belmont, North Carolina) and a Master of Arts in Theology at the University of the South's School of Theology (Sewanee, Tennessee).

Something of a child prodigy--playing the organ for his first complete liturgy at the age of nine--Christopher served for a decade during his elementary and high school years as Assisting Organist at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Trenton, New Jersey followed by ministry in numerous Roman Catholic, Episcopal, United Methodist, and Lutheran Parishes.  While earning his master's degree, he also served as the Assisting Organist for the Episcopal School of Theology at the University of the South.  He recently completed a successful and rewarding sixteen-year career in public safety.  Christopher is married to Erin and he has a daughter named Gracie.

I am thankful to Linda Buchanan, Clifford King Harbin, Margaret Perkins, and Pat Pfeiffer who joined me in interviewing all the candidates for this position.  They unanimously concurred with the decision to call Christopher.  I also want to thank Russell Mathews and Claudia Tomlin who have faithfully served our parish during this interim period.

You've got to hear this--February 8 will be a very special day!

St. John's Winter Shelter begins Sunday

St. John's week of winter sheltering for the homeless is exciting and coming up fast!  Kickoff is Sunday, 1/25, and we invite you to come bless and be blessed by this awesome ministry of our parish.  Help us move into the neighborhood and reach out a loving hand to Christ by signing up to help in Chisholm Hall and/or by purchasing long underwear for our guests.  We have many hearts and bodies to warm.  Join us once and you will come back!

We are still in need of men's large and extra large long underwear tops and bottoms.  (We have plenty 2x and 3x sizes.)  We are also in need of gently used men's warm clothes.

Thank you in advance for the wonderful support we receive each year for this effort!

Retreat Representatives are available after each worship service this Sunday. Registration forms
are available in Chisholm Hall or online.  If you have questions, please call Patti Devers at 615-3227.

The Founders Inn Spa is available for us to enjoy Friday prior to 6 pm and Saturday after 3 pm.  Retreat participants will receive a 10% discount.

Don't miss out on the Pilgrimage to Scotland and England. If you have any interest in participating in this September 12-25, 2015 pilgrimage, you are urged to make your deposit today.   Hotels are filling fast at some of our destinations.  Once they are full, we can take no more participants!  In Exploring our Anglican Spirituality, pilgrims will walk in the footsteps of many early Celtic and Catholic saints who were central to forming the unique Anglican heritage we cherish in the Episcopal Church today.  Though sponsored by St. John's Church, this pilgrimage is open to anyone who desires to journey with us.  The pilgrimage is limited to a total group size of 30.  Brochures are available in Chisholm Hall or via this link.  Is God calling you to be a part?
