African Team Ministries Sale begins this Sunday

African Team Ministries is a Christian ministry working as an intermediary between African and American churches.  With help from Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Anglican denominations, they provide funding for orphan and refugee relief, mission, and evangelism in East Africa.

A display of hand-crafted items made in Africa will be for sale in Chisholm Hall for the next two Sundays.  This Sunday, 3/30, there will be no Adult Forum so everyone will have plenty of time to shop for friends and loved ones!

The support from your purchases allows African Team Ministries to provide school fees, tuition, books, and uniforms to students in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.  This support ensures that the children receive an education and an opportunity to learn of and deepen their relationship with Jesus.  Through their partner churches, your purchases will give the gift of hope!

Celebrate Spring at this Saturday's Parish Garden Work Day!

Maybe...just maybe our long, cold winter is over?  Come spend the morning in beautiful spring weather and help with cleaning up the church gardens.  We'll work Saturday morning, 3/29 as planned-beginning at 9am.  Bring your leaf and garden rakes and your work gloves.  Several gas-powered trimmers are needed!  Children welcome - make it a family outing! (Rain date Sunday, 3/30)

Flower Arranging Workshop

Are you in the Flower Guild and want to improve your skills? Thinking about joining the Guild but you need to know more before you can help? The Flower Guild will conduct an arranging workshop on Saturday, April 5, 9 am - Noon. We will share what we learned at the National Cathedral workshop, provide some arranging basics, and offer an opportunity to do some individual hands-on arranging to practice for Easter.  The registration deadline has been extended to Tuesday, April 1. Add your name to the signup sheet in Chisholm Hall or contact Linda Buchanan to make sure we have arranging supplies for you!

Miscellany

Christian Formation through age 15 continues this Sunday.  Adult Forum will resume next Sunday, April 6.

Easter Vigil and Easter Day Flowers: St. John's is accepting donations for flowers to decorate our worship space for Eastertide.  These flowers may be given in memory of, or in thanksgiving for, a loved one or a special event.  Forms are available in our worship space.  Please either mail your donation and form to the Parish Office or place both in a sealed envelope in the offering plate.  Please be sure to note "Easter flowers" on the check memo line.

Contemplative Prayer, 4/1 & 4/8: We gather every week to worship God, using words, music, and our bodies; Contemplative Prayer is a way of praying through listening, learning to go beyond words so that we can simply be present with God.  St. John's offers Contemplative Prayer this Lent on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm in the Founders' Chapel.  After an introduction to quiet prayer, we will sit in silence with each other and with God and then share a brief reflection on our prayer experience before finishing around 7:15.

2014 St. Fiacre Flower Festival, 4/25-27:  The Planning Team will gather this Sunday in the second floor Community Meeting Room.  Calling all bakers!  The "bakery" at our St. Fiacre Flower Festival can use your help.  It is taking a twist this year by not selling entire cakes, pies, and breads but offering for sale individually wrapped single-sized items such as scones, muffins, brownies, cookies, cupcakes - even candy.   If you are interested in donating, please call either Martha Rush (439.9049) or Beth Meighan (871.7244).

The Daniel Plan is underway...but there is still time for you to join!  Getting healthy is a choice.  The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 6:30pm in the Community Meeting Room.   Join the Daniel Team as they explore the concept of being Daniel Strong through the pursuit of excellence in body, mind, and spirit for God's glory.   We are learning about being stronger in our bodies through exercise, one of five essential areas needed to be truly healthier. Call Dick Devers (630.6884) or Della Stearns (309.7586) for information.  See you there!
