Make your Brunch Reservation
for Consecration Sunday Today!

This Sunday, 11/10, is our congregation's Consecration Sunday.  Please plan now to attend two important events on that day: morning worship at 8, 9 or 11 and a brunch following each worship celebration (a catered meal, not a potluck.)  To plan for food preparation, we are asking those who have not already done so to make reservations by emailing or calling the parish office (399.4967).  Please indicate the number attending and the worship service you will attend on 11/10.

Feast on Favorites is now on Sale

St. John's ownnew cookbook, Feast on Favorites, is finally here and available for purchase starting this Sunday during the Consecration Sunday brunches.  The cookbook includes: Beautiful pictures of St John's (inside & outside), St John's History & List of Parish Events, Over 300 recipes from St. John's family & friends, a Free Easel for free standing book while you cook, a Free E-Book version with each book you purchase, and a Pocket to hold recipe cards... all this for only $20!!

Moving into the Neighborhood on 12/7 & 12/14

One of St. John's mission marks is to Dwell in our neighborhood.  We need your assistance with two wonderful evangelistic opportunities coming up in December.

Vintage Homes of Olde Towne Holiday Tour (12/7):  Some 500 persons from wider Hampton Roads are expected to tour 5 historic homes, ending at St. John's to visit our worship space and enjoy refreshments in Chisholm Hall.  The church's large punch bowl has cracked so we are in need of a replacement; current punch bowls for home use are relatively small so if you have an older, larger one, we'd love to borrow it or store it for you on your behalf.  We also need 75 dozen home baked cookies!  Can you help?  Please sign up in Chisholm Hall or contact the Parish Office.

Harp and Flute Concert (12/14):  Come enjoy some beautiful music at this annual Portsmouth Music Festival event and warmly greet those who visit on this night.  (Because the musicians have another commitment and because we will have had a cookie reception the Saturday before, there will not be a cookie and punch reception following this event this year.)

Shining in the World

Another of St. John's mission marks is to Shine inside and out, transforming lives as we make disciples and serve those in need.

Turkey Trot Results: Greater Hampton Roads won the Turkey Trot for this year!  Thanks to everyone's generosity, St. John's will be donating at least 36 Thanksgiving meal boxes.  In addition to all the food products, $850 was donated for the turkeys and pies!

Nothing but Nets Results: In honor of our first rector who died in the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1855, St. John's is donating $1380.56 to Nothing but Nets, allowing for 138 families to receive mosquito bed nets to protect them from malaria!

Garden Clean Up is this Saturday

We'll meet at 9:00 am this Saturday, 11/9, in the Memorial Garden.  It will be a beautiful day!

Bring your work gloves, rakes, shovels, and a leaf blower if you have one.   We still need people for clean up, planting and mulching the front flower bed, clean up and planting a perennial bed, and bagging leaves and refreshing mulch in the Memorial and Perennial garden.  Even if you haven't selected a slot, I'm sure we'll be able to find something for you to do!  Contact Linda Buchanan to let her know you are coming.

Miscellany

Christian Formation for all children (through age 15) continues this Sunday.  Children should plan to eat quickly at 10am or plan to attend a different brunch.

St. John's Annual Parish Meeting is slated for Sunday, 11/17 @ 10:15am.  We will elect new vestry members and determine the recipient of this year's Giving to Christ at Christmas campaign.  Hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Alyson Gonzales who was elected Student Council President of Churchland Elementary!

Congratulations to Clare Harbin who has been cast as a Cavalry Soldier in the Richmond Ballet production of The Nutcracker at Norfolk's Chrysler Hall.  Clare will dance the Friday evening (12/6) and Saturday matinee (12/7) performances only.

Lost your keys?  They are available in the Parish Office.

Prepare at home for this season's winter sheltering.  As you switch out your warm weather clothes for the cold weather clothes, please set aside some clothing that could be used in the clothing give away during Shelter week.

Have Photographs from our All Saints' celebrations?  Please email them to the Parish Office.

Sign up to prepare a meal for this year's Pilgrims in Christ group using the sheet posted in the Parish Hall.  Use your gifts of hospitality while you fulfill your baptismal promise to "do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ."
