Invite your friends!  Invite your neighbors!  Don't miss out on another great St. John's party!

Pilgrims in Christ

Pilgrims in Christ is designed to deepen your faith, no matter where you are on your spiritual journey.  Are you new to the parish?  Have you been part of St. John's all your life?  Are you seeking baptism?  Or are you simply seeking a spiritual "recharge"?  Pilgrims is perfect for you!

Pilgrims will gather weekly in 2012-13 on Thursday evenings from 5:30-8 pm and includes supper provided by St. John's parishioners as a way to "do all in their power" to support you as you deepen your spiritual journey.

If you're interested in participating as a Pilgrim this year, please complete a registration form found on the chest in the main entry to the church or on the table at the parking lot entry to the church and return it to the Parish Office.  Pilgrims in Christ, Journey #4 will begin in mid October.

Miscellany

Family Entertainment continues on the sidewalks of Portsmouth's High Street in Portsmouth on Fridays and Saturdays from 5-8pm through this weekend.

Christian Formation continues this Sunday for adults and children!   Groups for toddlers through age five begin at 10am; groups for ages 6 through adult begin at 10:10am.

Turkey Trot returns October 20. Get ready for some inter parish competition as we collect Thanksgiving food for our neighbors in need.  Look for more details in an upcoming eNews.

St. John's Prayer Ministry reforming:  Are you being called to pray for others?  Do you want to learn more about the power of prayer?  In Ezekiel we read that "God looked for people to stand before him in the gap, but he found none" (22:30).  St. John's prayer ministry is looking for intercessors to stand in the gap for those in need.  Please contact Suzanne Erickson (289-5455) or Margaret Perkins (390-7831).

Would you like to serve God by helping in worship?  Are you baptized and have the desire and ability to accomplish this ministry, even if you are very young or very old?  Then you qualify to serve as an acolyte at St. John's!  Acolytes carry the cross, candles, and the gospel book in our processions and help Fr. Derek prepare the altar for Eucharist.  Contact Sr. Heather to be included in our next acolyte training on Sunday, October 6.

The National Acolyte Festival is scheduled this year for Saturday, October 12, at the Washington National Cathedral.  St. John's sent 16 acolytes, family members, and other parishioners last year to this wonderful festival.  While the workshops are mostly geared to our young acolytes, anyone who leads in worship (readers, leading the prayers of the people, serving the chalice) is invited and welcome to bring a vestment and take part in the big festival procession, or to sit in the congregation and enjoy the Re-dedication Eucharist in the glorious Cathedral. Our parish registration is due tomorrow, so please contact Sister Heather right away if you'd like to join us!

Detour to Church?  The westbound lanes of Interstate 264 through the Downtown Tunnel West (from Norfolk to Portsmouth) are closed on weekends, except holiday weekends, through the Spring of 2014.
