Blessing of the Backpacks is this Sunday!

The Blessing of the Backpacks will be this Sunday, August 25.  Please bring school supplies for those in need and place them on the back pews of the church.  All students, teachers, and school personnel-make sure to be in worship this Sunday to begin the new school year with some divine inspiration!

We need your recipes in the St. John's Cookbook

St John's Cookbook needs your help to get completed!  Let's try to finish this month, August!!  Currently 45 recipes have been submitted... we need a lot more recipes... we need 300-400 for a cookbook.  If everyone could enter/submit 5-10 recipes (or more) we should be able to make our goal.  I know there are many wonderful cooks at St John's.  Think about recipes you love to make and share with others.  To enter recipes online, see instructions here.    If you're not able to enter recipes online, please place a written copy of your recipe in the Crock Pot in the parish hall... someone on the cookbook committee will enter it for you.   Brenda Wolter

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Training for Level I

(3-6 years)

It's not too late to join in the training for the new Christian Formation process being offered to our youngest members beginning in September.

A dozen people have already finished their first seven days of training and will begin the final nine days of training in September.  For the 2013-14 academic year, we will once again gather on the second Saturday of each month from 9am-3pm.

For those who would like to join us, you are invited to attend the make-up sessions for those who have already begun the training process.  If you are currently in the training process and have missed any lectures, please use this time to get caught up!  Sessions will be offered each day from 9:30am - 2:30am.  Bring a bag lunch.  Click here to let us know which session(s) you will attend.

The 2012-2013 make up schedule is as follows:  November 2012 session on Thursday, 8/22; December 2012 session on Friday, 8/23; January 2013 session on Saturday, 8/24; February 2013 session on Tuesday, 8/27; March 2013 session on Wednesday, 8/28; May 2013 session on Thursday, 8/29; and June 2013 session on Friday, 8/30.

If your child is toilet trained and will be 3, 4, or 5 by 12/31/2013, please be watching your email for an invitation for Orientation for your child to be welcomed to the new Good Shepherd Atrium which will open on September 9.  This new Christian Formation process, called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, is based on the child's developmental needs for their religious and spiritual abilities.  Using New Testament stories and presenting vocabulary about how we worship, the child is exposed to a new meditative and contemplative way to interact with Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

A Choir is Forming for the Diocesan Service of Repentance & Reconciliation at Christ and St. Luke's, Norfolk, on the Feast of All Souls, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.  The choir will be open to all singers who wish to participate. There will be two rehearsals held at Christ and St. Luke's in Norfolk. There will be no audition for the choir, but it comes with the understanding that singers will prepare the music before the rehearsals.  If you are interested in being part of this special event, please email Kevin Kwan at Christ and St. Luke's.  Please include your name, parish and voice part.
