For the fourth year in a row, GO representatives went into the Red Zone of Peru for four days of medical and spiritual healing.
For impact, Google the Red Zone. It's a lawless zone notorious for drug trafficking and terrorism. Several years ago, GO leadership determined that if the organization was going to make a difference in Peru, they needed to "go red."
They went again this last August, with military guards. The team of eight Peruvians included two doctors, one dentist, and five pastors. All were trained and mentored by GO; all knew precisely what they were heading into. This wasn't their first trip "in," and they understood that they could be risking their lives.
As the four days began, they weren't sure what to expect. But, once again, God showed His presence in strong and powerful ways. GO representative Desiderio Escalante said, "We witnessed the power of God to heal and save as never before."
More than 2,000 people, including many Machinguengas Indians, came, hungry for healing of all kinds. The team distributed 300 Bibles, for a total of nearly 2,000 since the trips began in 2010. Medical attention was given to 500 people, and 155 accepted Christ. People were treated medically during the day, in addition to attending Bible study classes. In the evening, evangelism, singing, and sharing the Lord provided an incredible energy that took over the crowd.
Larry Cochran, GO past president who first organized the trips, said, "Even though this is a very dangerous area, the need is so incredibly great. We couldn't bypass it. The rewards have been more than we ever anticipated. People accepted Christ and received Bible training and medical attention for the first time in their lives."
GO thanks everyone who supports mission trips such as this and asks for your continued prayers in advancing the Gospel in the Red Zone of Peru.
In spite of world events that points to the rise of evil, there is much rejoicing over God's power and grace.
