A buggy, a bed and a fan

Here is a testimony from Autumn Perry of Millegeville, Georgia who traveled with us to Honduras recently on a medical mission team. I think you'll enjoy this!

In December I felt the Lord leading me to a medical mission to Honduras. I hadn't been to Honduras before but had gone with GO InterNational on several other missions so I knew Dr. Frick and the general routine.

Things were flowing well the first morning of clinic and then I saw my next patient in line. I was secretly hoping she would go to one of the other providers in the clinic, but she did not. The mother coming to my station had a handicapped child in her arms. I could see she was not a baby but a child of two or three years. I could tell that her head and brain had not developed properly as a large part of the left side of her head was missing. I noted that her neck had no muscle tone and the mother had to keep the little girl's head steady. Her right side was stiff and she could not bend her right knee, lift her right arm or open her right fist. The little girl' eyes floated around in the sockets so I was not sure if she could see. About that time someone slammed the metal door and the little girl's body jumped! Good news, I thought, she can hear! As the mother sat down and I noted these things I sent up a prayer-Lord help me to know what to do, to say, to pray! (I am tears now while I write this and it was almost three weeks ago)

The mother was holding this precious child so carefully and tenderly and as my interpreter, Rosa, asked her what we could do to help her, I noted how clean the child was. Her skin was clean, her clothes clean, and when she drooled mom wiped it from the child's face. The child was well nourished and not dehydrated. The mother answered the question-all she wanted were vitamins for her child and nothing for herself. We asked the mother how she feeds her daughter and she explained how she mashed up the food and gives small portions at a time. She stated that she would crush the vitamins and give them to her in her food. The Mother also told us that she takes the child to therapy and began to show us the exercises she does with the child several times a day. As she was demonstrating these exercises the little girl lifted her left hand to the mother! Before they left our station we had prayer. Then I asked the mother if she had a buggy or carriage for the child. She said that she did not, but she did not mind carrying her wherever she goes.

Before Rosa and I saw another patient, I needed time to regroup. I talked with Rosa-she knew the child and mother. My heart was happy for them, yet burdened. I asked Rosa if it would be difficult to get a buggy for the baby and she assured me that it would not. That evening I shared with others about the child and my deep desire to provide a stroller for the mother. The idea was well received but it was not until the last day that I was able to put feet to my nudging. I asked if any one would like to contribute -they did very generously! Pastor Ivan was given the funds collected with specific instructions to get this mom and child a buggy! We said our good byes and boarded the bus for our destination, about a 6-7 hour bus ride. About 2-3 hours into the ride a call come from pastor Ivan. He had purchased a buggy, and a bed for the child as she did not have one and even had enough to buy a large fan to help keep her cool in the heat! You know the show where they redo houses and say " Move that bus?" Well, that is how I felt for this precious mother and her child! God used a great medical team to provide some material blessings for a mother and her handicapped child! What a blessing! I am so very thankful I heard the call to go, that I went, and that this opportunity was not missed!

I don't know about you folks, but that blessed me. Please join us in this mission ministry. You can GO, GIVE or PRAY. We desperately need all three.

Thank you!
