Our 2013 Nicaragua medical team, led by Larry Cochran and Larry Frick ministered in the villages of villa Quince and Rancheria. We worked with long-time GO partner Carlos Mayorga. We saw 883 medical patients and saw 1343 total patients including those receiving eyeglasses and fluoride treatments. The local pastors prayed with many people to receive Christ and many came forward the evening we showed the Jesus film in Rancheria. There were small service projects such as building an addition on the pastor's tiny home in Rancheria and distributing beans and rice to the widows and needy in the village. We tried to provide effective health teaching and evangelism to patients coming through as well.
GO's mission is to help people develop and pursue their passion for fulfilling the Great Commission. It was a joy for us to have a high school student on the team, Christianna, who has already answered God's call to be a missionary. Here is her view of the trip:
"This was my first trip, and I am very pleased with how well it was put together. Everything ran smoothly and it was great. I'm going to head to the mission field full time after I finish all my schooling, so I was thrilled to be able to finally get my 'feet wet.' I know now that I was made for this. The feeling of purpose was amazing and I'm so glad God gave me this opportunity. He did awesome deeds for us by helping us walk through initial shock and bumps in the road, moments of disappointment, and by effecting the lives of people in small, beautiful ways. I know we made an impact through Him and the local pastors and I know it will keep growing as we pray for those we met."
Another team member making her first trip, Amy Beam, a nurse from Ohio who came with her husband Dr. Wayne and four of their children posted the following thoughts on Facebook during the trip.
"Words wouldn't do justice to all we have experienced serving and in turn being served. Overwhelmed. Humbled. Grateful on so many levels. Blessed beyond measure. Those are a few. We have fallen in love with these children in three days-we have laughed and cried and fumbled through Spanish attempts... Sweat more than I thought humanly possible and have made friendships even in this short time-- we may not see them again until heaven- but we will see them. Thank you so very much for your prayers and support and encouraging words-- Our God is an awesome God!!"
