Larry Frick, Director of Medical Missions, recently returned from a mission trip Owerri, Nigeria. Larry and David Phipps of the Community Health Evangelism (CHE) Network traveled to Nigeria to present a seminar to those interested in improving health and sharing the Gospel across Nigeria.
CHE is a ministry strategy designed to help communities in developing countries help themselves through community development, health education, and sharing the love of Christ. Those attending the training were pastors, evangelists, doctors, nurses, and other health workers.
Subjects included the difference between relief and development, the impact of worldview on development, integrating physical and spiritual ministry, a focus on prevention rather than cure, and evangelism and discipleship.

Attendees were also taught how to enter communities and encourage them to take ownership of the development process and effective teaching methods. Fifty seven people attended parts of the training. On the last day, trainees were able to share what the time meant to them. Larry and David saw clearly the impact the CHE training had. "As a nurse in the community I thought I was doing it right but I learned that you don't have to lecture to teach about health. I learned a teaching method that impacts lives," A nurse who attended the training said. "I learned that strategies that work in one community don't always work in another. You need to take time to learn about the community you are entering. Sharing the gospel isn't just preaching, it's applying the word," an evangelist who attended the training said. |

The hope is that there will be lasting effect on those who attended. "We were greatly encouraged by their plans to have a review session in two weeks and form steering teams for their region to begin to implement the training they received. We are looking forward to seeing the progress when we return in late September," Larry said.
