Greetings!

A mission trip at Christmas? Even though we had not done that before, we decided to give it a try this year. It was a small team, but the feeling was that we were a part of something big that God was doing in the Dominican Republic.

Our invitation was to speak to a group of Haitian pastors, but we also were able to do some Christmas shopping for national missionaries, host a children's Christmas event, and provide a Jesus' birthday party for a deaf school.

It was Allyson's first time in the D.R. and she loved enjoyed it. "It was cool to experience a different culture, and I was surprised to find the distinct Latin American characteristics that I love," she said. The highlight of the trip for her was the Christmas party at the deaf school and the distribution of the food in the villages.  "Traveling to these sugar cane villages to hand out bags of food and we host party for the kids and it was incredible. The second I got out of the truck kids were coming up to me and grabbing my hand and talking to me. The fact that I could barely understand them didn't stop them at all. The day we went to the deaf school for their Christmas party that was one of the most meaningful opportunities I have ever had." Allyson said.

I did a session with the pastors called Spiritual Leadership Lessons from the Manger Scene. We gave all the Pastors in attendance a copy of Leadership Proverbs in Spanish as a Christmas gift. This trip made me realize that Christmas is actually a perfect time to go on a mission trip. It really puts your Christmas in perspective. I have come back from this trip with a strong commitment to help provide opportunities for people to serve around the world at Christmas time. It is the perfect anecdote to the commercialism of Christmas that we so easily fall into. If you are interested in joining me next December for a Christmas season mission trip, contact us! It is never to early to start planning for your next mission adventure.
