Greetings!
The freezing cold temperatures in the mountains of Tarahumara didn't damper the spirits of Jorge Rarimez, GO partner in Mexico and GO VP of Administration, Bob Stanko, as they celebrated Christmas with the Tarahumara Indians last week. Thanks to GO supporters like you, they were able to make the trek into the mountains of central Mexico to minister to this isolated and primitive tribe.
Bob and Jorge's mission was to minister to the Tarahumara's spiritual and physical needs. While telling them the good news of the Christmas season, the men were also able to distribute bags of food to over 100 families, provide a warm Christmas dinner and hand out winter clothing, which is essential in these cold mountains. "The Tarahumara people live in the mountains and many even live in caves. If the winters are hard, some freeze to death, because of not having proper clothing, enough firewood, and food. It was our hope and prayer to be able to provide some of this for them," Bob said.
Jorge has been making this trip for the past 10 years. This marked Bob's fifth trip to the Tarahumara Mountains. Both men agree that the spiritual growth in the people and the local outreach is exciting.
"There is a big difference from the first time we visited those villages and shared the Gospel. We now see local leaders, Jose, Teresa, Martha taking ownership of the ministry there and doing follow up with those who receive Christ each time we visit. They have grown spiritually each year. It is wonderful to see what the Lord has done," Jorge said.
Another amazing thing the Lord did was to raise up people help prepare the food bags and the main Christmas dinner. Ladies from Jorge's church in Juarez, Mexico helped. GO supporters donated funds for hats, gloves and money for the Christmas meals.
While they were able to share the love of Jesus and provide food and clothing for the people of the Tarauhmara villages, Jorge and Bob were ministered to as well. "God showed us that He always has a plan. Many times we make plans, but God has the ultimate plan so that HE is honored. We had no idea how we would aquire and distribute the food needed, but in the end, God provided enough to feed 400 people," Bob said.
Your support makes a huge difference in the lives of people around the world!
Please pray for the ministry to Tarauhmara Indians as they face the cold winter months and for the follow-up trip that is scheduled for summer 2013.
Thank you and God bless you this Christmas season!
