What does your can of soda do for you?
Ahhh... the refreshing thought of an ice cold soda pop being poured over a tall glass of ice. Nothing sounds better in the summer heat, sitting by the pool with an all-American hot dog and potato salad on your plate.
For many, a soda is a regular part of the day, whether it is the caffeine pick up, the sweet taste, or the fizzy refreshment. Soda has been a part of an American pastime for generations. But let's talk about what a can of soda does to the body.
We all know there are a lot of empty calories in soda and as a result many soda drinkers turn to diet sodas. | Spotlight on Clients | |
We would like to welcome back a few clients that we have not seen in a while at Fitness Plus: Gini Ford, Brenda Olfield and Dorothy Beard.
Each had taken a hiatus from their training for various reasons. We realize it is difficult to get back into your routine after taking time off and we congratulate you for being proactive about your health and overcoming the barriers that were between you and your workouts.
You all serve as a good reminder that taking a break from working out does not mean quitting.
Welcome back!

Greetings!
I hope this summer is treating you well and you are enjoying the opportunity to get back outside: walking, running, gardening, golfing. Take advantage of our long summer days here in Central Kentucky; they can help you lose those few lbs. you may have put on over the winter.
Try taking a walk after dinner in the evenings. Not only will this burn some extra calories, but it will help your digestion and aid in a good night's sleep. If you have a dog, take them on the walk also. We forget that our pets need activity, just like we do.
Remember that human's natural habitat is outside, not inside. As a species, our bodies need movement and sunshine for optimal physical and mental health. Our societal development that puts most of us indoors for far too many hours has actually caused many in the scientific community to consider the human species, as we know it, an endangered species! Scary thought.
Have a great month,
Sheila

What's Happening at Fitness Plus
A few new "toys" have been added to the National Ave. Fitness Plus facility. The trainers were very happy to see the addition of the "drive sled" and "ultimate sandbags." Both of these items are tools for all levels of fitness and continue our goal of being able to train all of our clients from a functional standpoint. That means we try to train your body/muscles in ways that life itself requires them to work. The new toys also make the trainers happy, as they can get more creative in designing your workouts. We all know that boredom is NOT what you want in a workout. Massage therapist Mariesha Watters is having great results helping FP clients overcome nagging injuries/pain like tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and neck/back pain. Her technique is both effective and pleasant; no deep trigger point work here. So, if you have a nagging muscle or tendon pain, or just want a relaxing maintenance massage, give Mariesha a call at 304.634.5501 to book your appointment. All first-timers get a free 30 minutes. |
The Rules of Pizza
From "Men's Health"
The "Eat This, Not That" folks offer suggestions on how to make your own pizza, because when you're in control, well, you have more control over what you're eating. Grill it, go easy on the cheese, and maybe add something a little different or exotic, like pistachio nuts.
