5 Top Strategies for Weight Loss

Well, it's the New Year! Have you made your resolutions? According to the TODAY show,

nearly half of all Americans make New Year's resolutions and of those, almost 40 percent are related to weight loss. With many fad diets and weight loss myths, it sometimes may seem impossible to keep the pounds off.  

 

 

I came across an article on "HUFFPOST: Healthy Living," by dietician and author Manuel Villacorta that explains his 5 Top strategies for successful weight loss. He confirms some things you may already know, such as how important it is to spread your meals evenly throughout the day, and debunks myths such as "never eat in the evening" and gives his justification for these ideas. He also puts forth ideas you may never have considered, such as the benefits of good, conscientious breathing and planning ahead for your grocery trips and meals.

Spotlight on Clients

Usually this feature is called "Client Spotlight", but this month we are spotlighting Fitness Plus trainer, Katie Dennison. After 2 years with Fitness Plus, Katie is following her dream to work with fire fighters; keeping them fit and healthy so they can better protect us. Katie accepted a job that will take her to Maryland; she will be missed. We look forward to hearing stories of Katie's new found success and adventures, but will miss her as a part of our team.

Well, here it is, another New Year. No matter how hard we try to slow it down and even sometimes back it up, time marches on. I am in the camp that believes in trying to "live in the moment", but I realize that every moment is fleeting, as new moments are always upon us. With each new moment we have new opportunities; to try something new; to improve an aspect of our lives; to reconnect with someone; to embrace life.  

 

We think about making resolutions this time of year, but the opportunity to change or improve our lives is always there, because "new" happens every day. Think about how to take advantage of your "new moments" to create a better you and a better life. Think about it now, and think about it throughout the year. Happy New Year.

What's Happening at Fitness Plus 

2012 was a busy and exciting year for us:

  • the opening our new facility on National Avenue;
  • becoming a Strong Over 50 certified facility,
  • bringing physical therapy, acupuncture, medical massage and chiropractic services on board,
  • hiring new trainers Joey, Amanda and Amy and brining new therapeutic massage therapist, Mariesha on board.

In 2013 we will continue to bring you the very best of fitness and wellness; continue to listen to our clients and do our best to meet their needs. We will continue to learn and pass on our knowledge to our clients to improve their overall wellness. We look forward to this year and thank you for a great 2012.
