Greetings!
It is a very busy and exciting time at the chamber these days, all in an effort to fulfill our mission: "promote business and build community".
Chamber Board Nominating Committee: This committee will meet on Friday, March 14 at 8:30am to consider names for the 2014- 2017 term. If you are interested please contact me or one of the committee members listed below. Please note that no member of the committee is eligible for nomination.
- Bill Gross - current board member
- Jill Helton - current board member
- Alecia Webb - past chair
- Jeff Barker - member-at-large
- Howard Sepp - member-at-large
Legislative Affairs / Washington Fly-in: March 24-26 a small group of Camden's community leaders will travel to Washington DC to speak with military and legislative leaders along with the officials of the National Park Service. These visits are part of a long term effort to ensure our county's concerns are addressed and opportunities recognized.
Membership & Marketing: This committee along with a team of volunteers is working to re-brand the chamber and grow our membership. Our membership drive will end at 5:30pm on March 20th at the Business After Hours at Lilliston Ford. If you know of someone that would like to join, please let us know to refer to one of our teams. Our goal is 25 new members - watch for our April Compass E-news to see if we make it! All new members will be invited to a new member orientation on April 4th to introduce them to each other and see how to maximize their membership. Existing members may also attend. Please just RSVP for catering purposes.
Small Business & Economic Development: These committees have invited a number of small businesses to participate in 2 different focus groups on March 20th and April 3 to identify business needs in Camden. Findings will be directed to specific committees or agencies to be addressed.
Golf: This committee is organizing a quality business networking event on April 14 at Osprey Cove. The Business Links Networking Golf Tournament promises to be a quality event meant to bring out business and community leaders to build stronger relationships (and have some well deserved fun at the same time).
Leadership: Leadercast is a day-long webcast that provides world-class development that is afford-ably priced and conveniently located at the Southeast Community Church in Kingsland. Tickets will go on sale Monday, March 17th at the early bird price of $65/ticket. The regular ticket price of $85 will start on April 1 and if still available, starting May 1 tickets will be $100. Seating is limited.
Leadership Camden: Brochures about Leadership Camden and applications for consideration for participation for this prestigious program will be available March 31. Two partial scholarships will be available. We expect this to be a large class as we had taken a year off due to sequestration.
Ambassadors: This dynamic group is all over the community, helping to share and gather information about the chamber and our members. See them at upcoming ribbon cuttings, or just let them know you appreciate their tireless efforts at the next Business After Hours.
Military Community Affairs: Thanks to this group that helps ensure we honor our young men and women with the Military Member of the Month Award. Nominations for this award are always welcome.
Workforce: This committee continues to identity workforce issues and is currently working with Altamaha Technical College on increasing the number of classes offered in Camden.
As a final note, we wish Jennifer Trimble the best as she anticipates the birth of her third child and welcome Shana Black as my new executive assistant. I know she will be a valuable member of our chamber team, especially with a busy spring ahead of us!
Kind regards,
Leslie Hamrick
