PARISH NEWS

Parish Life Meeting to be held this Saturday, August 9 at 9:00 AM

Members of each committee from the church will gather to help build the 2014-2015 program calendar and share knowledge about what other committees are doing at St James. With the mission of "Seeking and Sharing God's Eternal Love with Ancient Worship & Open Minds," we believe that we all are helping to meet this mission and would like to make sure that everyone has an idea of what other committees are doing to strive for meeting the mission. This meeting will allow us to cross pollinate the ways that each team is serving the mission of the parish, look for opportunities for collaboration, share the hopes and dreams of each ministry team.Any questions or concerns, please contact Tom Gossen:  [email protected]; or Anne Clark: [email protected] or call 816-797-6177.

OPUS

Wranglers. Dinner is informal, served at long tables in the Empire House Theater, followed by music and fun. Mass on the Grass and Parish Picnic, Sunday, August 24, Park Villa

Join us at 10:45 AM Sunday, August 24 for an outdoor celebration of Holy Eucharist and picnic lunch for the whole parish. We will hold this special event at Park Villa in North Riverside Park, along the northeast side of the Little Arkansas River. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided along with iced tea and lemonade. You are asked to bring a potluck dish to share (suggestions according to last name - A-I: meat or main dish;  J-R: vegetable or fruit, S-Z: dessert). We will arrive at 10:00 AM to begin setting up. The service will be at 10:45, and it will be followed immediately by a picnic lunch. The festivities will be over by 2:00 PM. Some tables and chairs will be available. Please bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating as well.  It will probably be warm, so be sure to wear comfortable clothes. This event is hosted by the Membership and Parish Life committee. outreachOUTREACH

Vacation Bible School Outreach report

The St. James VBS loose- change drive yielded $204.84. Wowzers! Good going, kids! This money was given to Partners for Wichita for their Filling the Gap Lunches for Kids program. Peace, love, and full bellies!

St. James Outreach Sponsors Water Drive for ESS

The Outreach Committee needs your help:  Our "Water Ministry" for ESS is in full swing, once again. Since many of the clients served by ESS have to walk, take the bus, or ride bikes on these hot summer days, a cold bottle of water makes a big difference. For three years, St. James has taken on this very easy, but greatly appreciated summer ministry.  Please bring packs of water bottles--large or small--to the church; they will be delivered to ESS every week.

Filling the Gap - Summer Meals - Wichita through Friday, August 8

Several families served by the St. James After School Program use food assistance programs. This summer, Partners for Wichita, a local nonprofit organization, will be offering meals to school-aged children after the USD 259 Summer Food Service Program ends in late July. Meals will be served at 15 locations across the Wichita area through Friday, August 8. With the help of congregations, organizations, volunteers, and people like you, they plan to serve about 9,000 free meals to hungry kids and youth. Those who are interested in helping can email or call program coordinator Danielle Ramirez who will schedule based on volunteer availability and program need. [email protected] or call 316.263.1389. Cash donations may be sent to Partners for Wichita 925 N. Waco Ave. Wichita, KS 67203. Just write "Filling the Gap donation" in the memo line.

For additional questions or concerns regarding the program,

please contact Deacon Peg Flynn at 316.641.7686.
