Acolyte Training Saturday, June 28, at 10:00 AM

 


This training is a refresher course for current acolytes and for anyone who is interested in becoming an acolyte. The session should last about an hour and a half. Rumor has it that there may be a few prizes awarded for participation.  Questions? Please contact the church office. We look forward to seeing you Saturday! 

PARISH NEWS  

Wichita parishes featured in new web audio series  

 

Chris Robrahn, a member of St. James, has produced a four-week web audio radio series which premiered on Monday, June 23 at 10:00 AM., featuring clergy from four churches in Wichita. The series is broadcast on the Church Broadcast Entity (CBE) as part of the network's "First Word" series, and it will repeat for six successive mornings, all at the same 10:00 AM time. It also will be available as a podcast in late July. To listen visit www.the-cbe.org, and click the "Now Playing" button on the right of the screen.

The schedule, which includes interviews with the clergy about a variety of current topics, is:

  • June 23: St. James with the Rev. Dawn Frankfurt and the Rev. David Lynch
  • June 30: St. Stephen's with the Rev. Mary Korte
  • July 7: Good Shepherd with the Rev. Andrew O'Connor
  • July 14: St. John's with the Rev. Earl Mahan

The series will be introduced by Deacon Peg Flynn of St. James. Robrahn also hosts the weekly "Spirit of Fitness" broadcast for CBE. The Church Broadcasting Entity is a ministry of several Episcopal churches in North Carolina and Texas and is based in Houston.

Farewell Father David

 

Fr. David Lynch has been an inspirational and hard-working leader of our parish for two years. His 2-year curacy ends on June 30. He will preach all services this weekend, June 28 and 29.  May God continue to bless you in your ministry, Fr. David!

Patriotic Sunday

 

On July 5 & 6 we will recognize Independence Day. Any active or retired military person is invited to proceed into the church following the flag as part of the procession. Those who participate follow the flag to the trancept, then take a turn to the right or left outside aisles to find your seats.

Vacation Bible School - July 14-18 vbs

This summer, the theme for VBS is 'International Spy Academy; searching for God in the World Around Us.' Enroll your children now for a week full of detective-like fun! Children of the following ages are invited to participate: those about to enter pre-kindergarten or kindergarten through those about to enter the 5th grade (approximately ages 4-10 years old). Older children may volunteer as assistants. Adult volunteers are needed to lead groups and facilitate activities. Summer Sunday Choir 

 

On one Sunday each month during the summer, there will be a Sunday morning choir which is open to all ages. The group will rehearse at 9:45 in the Music Room on those dates and then sing during the 10:45 service. If you have been wanting to give choir a try, here is your opportunity! The dates are
July 13 and August 17. Come and sing on all or just one of these Sundays.

Sunday School teachers/mentors year end meeting, Sunday, June 29 

A year end meeting for the Sunday School teachers and mentors and all parents and parishioners who make up the Youth Christian Education Committee will be held, Sunday, June 29, between the services. This meeting will allow for a review of this school year and discussion of ideas and concerns parents and teachers have for our Youth Christian Education programs. Please plan on attending this meeting that should last less than an hour.

Kindness Moves Me Walk/Run, Saturday, June 28, 1010 N. Main (ESS)kindness

 

Episcopal Social Services will host the second Kindness Moves Me 5K Run/Walk at their home, 1010 N. Main, on Saturday, June 28! Please help to spread kindness by registering to participate in either the 5K run/walk or the 1-mile fun run/walk. This is a wonderful opportunity to move our community forward with intentional kindness and support the programs of ESS.  For more information on the course and activities or to register online, visit esswichita.org/calendar/kindness. Bread donations

 

Donations of bread are always needed to keep ESS supplied with enough bread to make sandwiches for all who utilize their services. Place bread in the Deacon's basket in the Garden Corridor.
