Happy New Year everyone! I hope all of our wonderful patients are beating the flu epidemic and staying healthy and happy. I am excited to introduce our new medical provider to you. Kristen Brown will be adding urgent care to the clinic and doing women's health exams, as well as building her own practice. She is wonderful and in the process of getting her functional medicine certification through the Institute of Functional Medicine. You will likely see her in the office in a couple of weeks shadowing me as I see patients as she learns the flow of Fern Life.
Kristen's interest in Functional Medicine began even before she knew the term for it. Coming from a family where several members have Type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, and/or heart disease, she knew she didn't want that to be her fate. She began her quest to change her lifestyle and diet to help prevent these diseases in herself and hopefully make positive changes that would ultimately influence the health of her own children. With the help of a formally trained Functional Medicine Practitioner, Kristen also discovered some genetic and other influences on her health status. Together they devised a plan tailored to her needs. This plan changed her life and future for the better. Soon thereafter, she decided to formally study Functional Medicine on her own.
Kristen has been working in the medical field for more than 14 years and has been practicing as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in family practice and urgent care for over 6 years. She earned her Master's in Nursing degree from Seattle University. She is excited to join her Western Medicine knowledge and skills together with Functional Medicine to provide well-rounded individualized health care plans for her patients at Fern Life.
In her free time, Kristen enjoys jogging, yoga, going on dates with her husband, and raising their two young children in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
You will be able to book appointments with Kristen in February.
Welcome aboard Kristen!
