REUSEABLE BAG ORDINANCE INFORMATION

Business community outreach meeting
to explain the upcoming Reuseable Bag Ordinance
that begins in Los Altos on July 4th.

May 9th - 6:00 to 7:30 pm Council Chambers

Kathy Kleinbaum, Economic Development Manager will have a power point presentation that will cover all aspects of the bag ban. The ban applies to single use plastic bags. The ban applies to retail establishments selling perishable or nonperishable goods directly to the consumer, such as food, clothing or personal items. Stores may provide customers with a recycled paper bag, or a reusable plastic bag (at least 2.25 mil thick). Stores must charge .10 cents for these bags and the sale of the bag must be a separate charge on the receipt provided to the customer. Paper bags must be at least 40% post-consumer recycled content and be 100% recyclable and have "Recyclable" and "Reusable" printed in a highly visible manner. Stores are required to track their purchase of approved bags and sale of bags to customers for three years and supply accounting records of bag purchase and sales to City personnel upon request. There are some exceptions to the ban. You will have the opportunity to ask all of the questions you might have at this meeting. For questions please contact Kathy Kleinbaum at 650-947-2620.

Please take a moment to complete the form and return it to: Los Altos Police Department, Attn: Josh Cottrell, Code Enforcement Officer, 1 N. San Antonio Road, Los Altos, CA 94022. You may also email this form to [email protected] or faxed to: (650) 947-2704. Participation in this program is voluntary. BiketoWorkDayLogo
One day each year, on a warm May morning, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition encourages commuters to leave their cars at home and join the tens of thousands of their fellow Bay Area residents in biking to work. The weather is perfect, the streets filled with cyclists, and energizer stations dot the landscape, staffed by volunteers eager to pass out treats and encouragement. Bike to Work Day is a vision of what the morning commute should look like: Parents and children, office workers, politicians, CEOs, all doing the unimaginable - enjoying their trips to work and school.  YOU CAN DO IT!

San Antonio Streetscape Update
by Kathy Kleinbaum, Economic Development Manager

This week, the contractor is continuing to work on the storm drain system, ADA ramps, rain gardens, granite column and the median island improvements. The contractor has installed the irrigation system on all the median islands and in a portion of the rain gardens. Some of the parking stalls that were out of commission in Parking Plaza 3 are now open to the public.

For the week of May 6, 2013, the contractor plans to continue working on storm drain system, ADA ramps, visual screen, irrigation system, and rain garden improvements. It's anticipated that there will be temporary lane closures on San Antonio Road during non-commute hours due to the work on the intersections and median islands.
