The September 7th Downtown Los Altos First Friday will be a special event! From 6-8pm that evening the Los Altos Town Crier will celebrate its 65th birthday, hosting a free ice cream social, offering children's games, and providing music and other activities related to its long history of being part of the Los Altos community. The Town Crier offices will be open for touring. In addition, this First Friday features 29 open downtown stores and galleries, many offering complimentary refreshments, promotions, and in-store events. The streets will be alive with music and downtown restaurants will be open and serving a wide selection of cuisines. All downtown parking is free.

Historic Bike Tour
Saturday, September 29, 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Hop on your bike and see Los Altos from a whole new point of view, touring historical points of interest and hearing the story of Los Altos--you're going to love it. A ride of about 12 miles, we will visit at least 35 points of interest including houses, commercial buildings, churches and parks. The ride is on fairly level ground, and with all the good story telling is expected to take about 3 hours. Space is limited. Register at:

Get Specialized Training for Your Workers NOVA, your local workforce investment board, is partnering with the California Workforce Association to connect you to training resources to offset the cost of upgrading your employees' skills. This Employment Training Panel (ETP) program aims to ensure that companies operating in California remain competitive and is designed to lessen the need for layoffs. - For-profit employers are eligible (except retail and other strictly local service companies)
- Most types of formal training are allowable to advance your employees' skills
- Training may range from a minimum of 24 hours to a maximum of approximately 200 hours
- Trainees must be employed at least 35 hours per week and earn at least $15.70 per hour (cash wage plus health benefits)
- Trainees must remain on the job for 90 days after completing training in order for company to receive training reimbursement
Interested employers must complete a Certification Statement and return it to NOVA by September 10, 2012. The form and more information are on NOVA's website at http://bit.ly/PktpSw

"Hidden History" Walking Tour
