Don Wilke's Gold Country Auto Clinic Donates Subaru to Operation Care
Amador County, August 24, 2015 -- As part of Gold Country Auto Clinic's open house to celebrate their recent move to Jackson, Don Wilke presented Operation Care with a beautiful rebuilt 1997 Subaru Legacy. Several businesses including Howard's Body Shop, Jackson Tire, Riebe Auto Parts and Diamond Detail contributed to the refurbishment of the car, and Don Wilke has offered to provide maintenance of the car for the first 12 months.
"This gift is helping to improve the lives of survivors", said Tammie Crabtree, Executive Director of Operation Care. "We transport clients nearly 23,000 miles every year. This includes doctor appointments, social services, school, work and emergency transportation for victims escaping a dangerous situation. Don Wilke's Gold Country Auto Clinic's support for Operation Care is deeply appreciated, and our clients can take great comfort that members of our community value them and support their efforts toward living a safe and non-violent life, free of fear."
The open house celebration, held on Saturday, August 15th included free hot dogs, sodas and water, a bouncy house, and an honest-to-goodness NASCAR race car that Dale Earnhardt Sr. drove some years ago. The event was very well attended, including at least a couple of car clubs, the local radio station, and customers and friends of Gold Country Auto Clinic, Operation Care, and the Interfaith Food Bank (for each canned food item donated to the Food Bank, a raffle ticket was issued).
"It is most heart-warming to see how much affection and respect Don Wilke has earned in the community", said Bill Price, vice-president of Operation Care. "He has always been a great supporter of Operation Care, and this generous gift will certainly be used for many miles to come".Operation Care has been providing help for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for 36 years. Advocates and volunteers are available 24 hours a day to provide crisis intervention, safe shelter, peer counseling, help with restraining orders, and transportation to court or other appointments. The organization's shelter program helps victims to heal, and gives them time to decide where to go next. The "Fresh Start" program helps survivors to transition from the Safe House and establish safe, violence-free housing by helping with rental deposits, donated household items, and furniture. Prevention education programs promote healthy relationships, as well as educating people about the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault on families and the community.
