Amador County (April 7, 2015) - Amador County was represented by Tammie Crabtree, Executive Director of Operation Care at the WOCN National Economic Policy & Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. Fifty representatives from twenty states across the nation were selected to share information and to help develop local and national economic policy recommendations affecting survivors of violence.
"It was an honor to be selected and participate in this important Summit, making sure Operation Care and Amador County have a voice in decisions and priorities being made at our Nation's Capitol," said Tammie Crabtree, Executive Director of Operation Care.
The Summit, held March 29th through 31st, consisted of panels, workshops, and sessions aimed at developing concrete local and national economic policy recommendations for survivors. Rosie Hidalgo, Deputy Director for Policy at U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women was the keynote speaker. The sessions included a mix of information sharing on economic security for survivors of violence, and built a leadership base to ensure victims of violence collective safety, security, and empowerment.
"The issue of sexual violence and domestic violence are the same across the nation, ours are on a much smaller scale," said Tammie. "After hearing from other agencies, it is clear that Operation Care is on the forefront of prevention education and our understanding of our client's needs are on point. Amador County can be proud that Operation Care is recognized as a professional organization and a champion in the fight against Domestic and Sexual Violence."
Operation Care has been providing help for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for 35 years. Advocates and volunteers are available 24 hours a day to provide crisis intervention, safe shelter, peer counseling, help with restraining orders, and transportation to court or other appointments. The organization's shelter program helps victims to heal, and gives them time to decide where to go next. The "Fresh Start" program helps survivors to transition from the Safe House and establish safe, violence-free housing by helping with rental deposits, donated household items, and furniture. Prevention education programs promote healthy relationships, as well as educating people about the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault on families and the community.
