Kim's Story

While residing in our safe house after escaping an abusive relationship, Kim* and her son entered Operation Care's Transitional Housing program just over a year ago. Through the program, she completed our Rural Economic Empowerment Financial Class, attended support group sessions, and engaged in goal planning during case management. She obtained a part-time job and eventually her place of employment offered her enough hours so she was able to enroll her child in a low cost daycare/preschool. Kim is now paying her own rent and utilities for the housing we had provided and previously paid for her through the program.  She has been able to break the Cycle of Violence and live a healthy, independent life. Her participation in Operation Care's Transitional Housing Program is one example of the many success stories resulting from the program.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

SAAM Activities

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is nationally recognized as a joint effort to bring awareness and education about sexual violence. Operation Care is encouraging Amador County residents to participate by wearing teal, the national color for SAAM, to promote sexual assault awareness during the month of April.

Wear Teal Color

Baskets filled with teal bracelets, ribbons, and stickers can be found at various locations throughout the county. Spread the word and invite your friends and family to show their support by speaking up against sexual violence. For the locations of the baskets please contact our office 209.223.2897 or stop by our office at 619 New York Ranch Rd in Jackson and we will gladly provide FREE teal sexual assault awareness items!

Denim Day - April 24

SAVE THE DATE, April 24th is Denim Day! We encourage you to wear denim in order to raise awareness against rape and sexual violence. Operation Care staff will be handing out Why Denim? T-shirts throughout the day with the pledge to end sexual violence.  Denim Day was established in 1996 when a rape case was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court. In this case, the perpetrator, who had been previously convicted for sexual assault, argued that because the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the perpetrator take off her pants during her assault, therefore making it consensual. This decision created a widespread campaign known as "Denim Day" in which jeans are worn on the last Wednesday of April to protest sexual violence.

Human Ribbon Campaign & Balloon Release

Be sure to keep a look out for the HUMAN RIBBON Campaign as well! Last but not least, keep a look out for the balloons that will be released marking the 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men that are sexually assaulted every 2 minutes in the United States.  Teal and white balloons will be released, with the white balloon in each grouping representing the victim.

Amador's Talent Shines Through

In February, Operation Care brought back our signature fundraiser, Faces Presents "Amador's Got Talent"!  Over 200 guests, sponsors, volunteers and staff attended the fun-filled evening which included dinner and a talent show held at the Jackson Rancheria Casino/Resort. The fourteen acts from Amador County provided excellent entertainment with winners voted on by the audience for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash prizes. This year's winners were: Kory Gibbs (1st place), Viam Vitae (2nd place), and Kellsey Long (3rd place).

The event raised $3,000 for Operation Care. A BIG THANK YOU to all that contributed and participated in the event as we look forward to its return in 2014 with another huge success! A special thank you also goes to Sutter Health as a major donor, and to the Jackson Rancheria Casino/Resort for donating the ballroom for the event. Click here for a complete list of sponsors.

Color Madness

Operation Care's 1st Annual color run/walk dubbed "Color Madness" was a huge success. The event was held on February 2nd, 2013 in the neighborhood around Margaret Dalton Hall in Jackson. "Color Madness" is a 5k Color Run/Walk geared toward raising teen dating violence awareness in our community. We had over 400 participants for this event. The participants enjoyed our 5k course while being covered in colored powdered paint. The run was followed by a barbeque lunch.  The fun run was free, however, $1436 was graciously donated by the participants! THANK YOU!

We are planning on holding this exciting run again next year on February 1st, 2014, so mark your calendars and please join us for our second annual "Color Madness".
