Last month hundreds of excited Girl Scouts enjoyed a night of fun thanks to Time Warner Cable sponsoring the Inaugural Girls STEM Expo.
The event was held at Science City and included a special Q&A session for 400 Girl Scouts with two amazing STEM role models, Actress Emma Dumont and KMBC Meteorologist Erin Little. It was delightful to see so many Girl Scouts in the audience eagerly raising their hands to ask STEM-related questions.
When the Q&A finished, hundreds more Girl Scouts joined in the fun with 50+ hands-on STEM activities and the highly anticipated "Science of Ballet" exhibit, with KC ballet dancers demonstrating their talent.
Erin Little shared how she was originally inspired when Meteorologist Bryan Busby visited her school and gave a talk on severe weather. She noted the importance of spreading awareness of STEM-related careers when girls are young
Our council is thrilled when STEM advocates like Emma Dumont and Erin Little as well as companies like Time Warner Cable choose to partner with us to share their love of STEM with girls. STEM is an important focus for Girl Scouts and we are committed to inspiring girls to become STEM leaders as the need for women in these fields will grow exponentially in the future. Check out all the upcoming Spark events we already have planned to continue inspiring girls to dream big!
Daisy's Circle Members Head to Camp Prairie Schooner
Well, they sort of headed to camp but they didn't need a sleeping bag this time. Fifty Daisy's Circle members recently got a first-hand look at what camp is like for Girl Scouts. They were invited to enjoy a beautiful fall day experiencing some favorite outdoor activities.
The laid-back afternoon included staff-led tours, geocaching, building with STEM connectors, and watching a Girl Scout troop zipline for the first time.
Some of our four-legged friends were there to highlight our equestrian programs.

They even had the chance to sit around the campfire making s'mores and singing Girl Scout songs.
We are so pleased at the response to Daisy's Circle, our monthly giving program and wanted to share the joy of camp with our members. In today's plugged-in world, we know the camp experience is one that Girl Scouts crave. Because of generous donors like you we can make camp a reality for so many girls. Thank you for all you do to support our programs.
United Way & Combined Federal Campaign
The United Way campaign will soon be coming to a close. This is just a reminder to support the United Way campaign by a making a gift to your local United Way community fund which benefits Girl Scouts and other community organizations.
Additionally, the annual fundraising drive of the Combined Federal Campaign is also now underway. Federal civilian, postal, and military employees have an opportunity to participate in the CFC - the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign! If you are a federal employee, please consider directing your CFC contribution to the Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri. Our CFC number is 35109.
If you have questions, please contact Deveri Harvey at deveriharvey@gsksmo.org. Thank you for supporting Girl Scouts!
