Troop 73 is Taking Action!

Junior Troop 73 from Olathe, Kansas is working on their Take Action Project to earn their Bronze Award. The girls decided to focus on an anti-bullying campaign at their school, Sunnyside Elementary.

The girls have already met with their principal and counselor to present their plan to host a school-wide assembly. They want to raise awareness and give their peers tools to combat bullying. The troop's plan has been approved and now they are off and planning the assembly.

They are partnering with Theatre of the Imagination to customize a pre-written anti-bullying play that will be presented in Spring 2014. Troop 73 is certainly taking the lead supported by their awesome leaders - Meili Brady, Holly Nitz and Lucia O'Connor!

Join Troop 73 as a featured troop by sending your troop's story answering the following question:

How does your troop prepare for the Cookie Program?

Send your story to prdept@gsksmo.org. The selected troop will be featured in the January 10 S'MORE and the leader will receive a $20 GSKSMO Shop certificate.

Camp Oakledge in Warsaw, Missouri

Camp Oakledge has closed for the winter, and it will remain closed throughout 2014. When planning for summer 2014, we looked at our expenses and utilization from last year. We want to bring girls great experiences while remaining fiscally wise, thus made the decision to run our summer programming from four camps instead of five. This will help us increase utilization, bring new camping experiences like mini-camp and better support our service unit day camps with fun staff-led programming.

What Can Cookie Dough Pay For?

With all these great fun activities, now is the perfect time to promote participation in the Cookie Program and earning Cookie Dough. Cookie Dough can be used for service unit day camp, mini-camp, resident camp, Mother / Daughter overnights (both the daughter and mother fees), family camp (for all family members' fees), GS destinations and the GSKSMO Shop.

Girls Deserve the Best and YOU Make it Possible!

Thanks to leaders like you, Girl Scouts is receiving financial support from the community, ensuring quality programming for girls.

Just this week, Barbara Debose, Leader of Troop 1888, helped Girl Scouts secure a $500 gift from her employer, FedEx Office. These funds will help provide supplies for the Get Moving Institute, our STEM education program for troop leaders.

We have also recently received investments of $50,000 from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, and $25,000 from the Louetta M. Cowden Foundation

to support the Outreach Program. The Outreach Program allows girls in underserved areas to experience Girl Scouts.

Does your employer have a community giving program? Do you know of an organization or individual who wants to help Girl Scouts? Please share your ideas! Call Mary Pat Beals at (816) 759-3045 or email marypatbeals@gsksmo.org. Thank you!
