Happy Birthday, Juliette Gordon Low

Dear Girl Scout Families,

What a special day for Girl Scouts! Today we celebrate our Founder Juliette Gordon Low's birthday. Juliette was a true trailblazer, and her visionary leadership created a strong foundation for our organization. Learn more about Juliette's story.

Juliette started Girl Scouts so girls could experience the same opportunities as boys. More than 100 years later, we are a place where girls can discover new skills, connect with others and take action to make a difference in their communities.

Thank you for choosing Girl Scouts! Your daughter will gain self confidence and learn valuable skills that will last a lifetime. She will not only be a future leader, but she will be encouraged to be a leader today. Is she the next Juliette Gordon Low?

Your support means so much! Below are a few updates and exciting opportunities we hope you will encourage your daughter to explore.

Yours in Girl Scouting,
Chief Executive Officer

What is Your Girl Scout Doing Now?

We are just one month into the new Girl Scout year and troops are doing a variety of things from celebrating GS traditions to beginning a Journey. Here are a few things to ask your Girl Scout about:

Investiture / Rededication Ceremony - this ceremony is to welcome new GS sisters to the troop and for returning members to reaffirm their commitment. As part of this ceremony and usually at the start of every troop meeting, Girl Scouts recite the Promise and Law. Invite your daughter to recite these powerful words to you and the rest of the family.

Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting & Journeys - your daughter's troop leader has probably asked you to purchase a few essential items. Two of these items are the program books. The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting is a binder filled with great things from GS history to badge activities. Journeys are smaller books with great activities that tie to our three keys to Leadership - Discover, Connect and Take Action. Over dinner or a drive in the car, ask your daughter what badge or Journey award she is working toward.

Girl Scouts is Fun! - Of course, there is always time for a fun camp-out or other activity. Many of our younger troops have taken a trip to the pumpkin patch or zoo this fall. Older troops may have participated in an outdoor activity - zipline, rappel or horseback riding. We have so many opportunities with council-led programming and amazing community partners. See what fun things are on the calendar. In order to do these fun things, your troop leader is always looking for chaperones and drivers. Thank you for offering your support!

Girl Scouts = Making a difference - Girl Scouts give thousands of hours in community service. If your daughter is a Junior - Ambassador GS, she may have started working on our highest awards: Bronze, Silver or Gold. These awards require planning and the completion of a special project. Two of our Girl Scouts - Maggie and Sophie earned national recognition for their service by receiving the President's Volunteer Service Award. See more of their story now.

GSKSMO Leading the Way in STEM

Did you know that Girl Scouts offers STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programming for girls? It's a national initiative for Girl Scouts and our council is working to lead the way. We are in a perfect position with the country's leading STEM professionals in our geographic area.

We want to connect more girls to STEM activities and professionals helping to encourage them to pursue a future career in this fast growing field. It's been a busy fall! We trained a group of Junior GS troop leaders who now facilitate programming for girls. We kicked off a new series called SPARK Events bringing girls and STEM professionals together in their workspace. More great programs to come! We offer programs at camp and community partner programs. We have something for every girl's interests!
