Welcome Back for a New GS Year!
The S'MORE is back and loaded with lots of  information!  Welcome back to our returning troop leaders and a first welcome to our new leaders!  We look forward to a great year working together.

The S'MORE is sent every other week and provides links to our website for program opportunities, training and other important updates.

If you would like to read the S'MORE without graphics (great for those smartphones), at the bottom of this email, there is a update my profile / email link and you can select to receive this e-publication in TEXT-ONLY Format.

Ebiz Upgrade

Requested upgrades are currently being made to our GS online registration system.  The system will be unavailable beginning Friday, August 9 and will be back up on Tuesday, August 13.

All users will need to reset their account name and password after the upgrade-good news, you will then use only one name/password to access accounts for your entire family.  Starting mid-August, you will also notice the following upgrades:

  • You will be able to see all activities, regardless of the registration method, for your entire troop or troops
  • You will be able to see all troop orders placed online
  • You will have an easy to use interface that will prompt you to update troop meeting information

Thanks in advance for your patience as these new system enhancements are added.  If you need assistance at any time, contact our registration help desk at  registrationhelpdesk@gsksmo.org or (816) 759-3025.

 Fall Programming Now Available

Visit gsksmo.org to schedule your troop for fall camping, outdoor programs, horses, STEM, community partners and more. The council calendar and Troop Planning Guides are great places to start planning your fall activities. Remember that registration for many of the council programs is closed 2 weeks before the event. Registration for fall program events will re-open after the Ebiz upgrade on Tuesday, August 13.

 New Journey Pages

Ready to start a new Journey this fall? Leaders have asked for more assistance with beginning Journeys, so we've created resources to help you.  Under the For Girls section of the website, you will find a helpful webpage for each of the Journeys. These pages include a variety of resources like summaries, pinterest boards, community partner or field trip ideas and much more. Visit your specific age level page (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, etc.) to learn more about each Journey.

 Unit Sharing on Council Property
Based on feedback from leaders, we are now offering a unit sharing option at Camp Prairie Schooner. Troops can now reserve ½ of the Pack Train unit. This is a great option for smaller troops so they can share a unit and save on rental costs. Reserve your fall camping dates now

Getting Moving Institute

Your girls want to Get Moving in 2013-2014!  New this year, we will be offering the Get Moving Institute that will support Junior troop leaders in the completion of the Get Moving Journey. This opportunity will include leader training, special events for troops, support from GS staff, and free Journey books for girls and leaders. Visit our website to learn more and to register for the program after the Ebiz upgrade on 8/13.

Service Awards for Take Action Projects

The ABC Summer of Service Awards recognizes young people who are creating positive change through volunteering and service. Winners receive an award to assist them in continuing their good work. Young change-makers, ages 5-18, who live in and around ABC-affiliate communities are eligible to apply by midnight on September 1, 2013. Visit www.YSA.org/ABC.

 Leader Spotlight
We are adding a new feature to the S'MORE... Once a month, we want to spotlight a troop leader and the innovative ways she or he is helping to deliver the GS Leadership Experience. The troop leader chosen for the spotlight will receive a $20 gift certificate from the GS Shop.

This month's featured question: How do you kick-off the new troop year or plan an investiture?

Send your creative ideas to prdept@gsksmo.org along with your Troop number, SU number / location and full name.  We look forward to sharing!
