Hello

How exciting is it that we are one week away from Solstice Weekend! The Fremont Solstice Fair kicks off the festivities Friday night. There will be music, food, drinks, vendors, and more! Rust on Rails and the Helio Sequence will be playing Friday at the Redhook main stage; music begins at 8:30. The Fair will run Friday-Sunday, so you can party all weekend! Be sure to get the fun started early before the Solstice Parade on June 18.

Don't forget to Register for Picnic in the Park. This event will take place at Gasworks park Wednesday June 15th and kicks off at 11:30  Gather for this festive discussion of the Maritime Industry, and how we can support and strengthen this vital economic driver for the betterment of our entire business community. Come celebrate Fremont's Working Waterfront with speakers from the Port of Seattle, the City, and the State. Food will be grilled on site! Speakers will include Rob Johnson, Bill Bryant, Lindsay Pulsifer, Mike Sherlock and Sergeant Edward Yamamoto.

Please be advised of the Westlake cycle track construction happening over the next two weekends. As phase 3 of construction continues the Highland Dr entrance/exit onto Westlake Ave N will be closed temporarily during the weekend of June 10-12. Learn more about this project here.

Hi New Members!
Community Corner:

As shared with us during our April 20th meeting, United Way of King County in conjunction with the City of Seattle, the Millionair Club, Downtown Seattle Association, YWCA and other partners is responding to our community's homelessness state of emergency with a new initiative...an innovative program called "Jobs Connect". This is a program that offers able-bodied persons living outdoors and panhandling the chance to be matched with appropriate job opportunities right away.

The program was successfully launched on March 1st and is now being taken to scale. Raising the necessary funding to support the program is essential to maintaining its positive momentum.
We're all keenly aware of the detrimental effects on our respective businesses and our community at large caused by the blight of panhandling and of people living on our streets. Supporting Jobs Connect offers a relatively painless, immediately impactful way for us to take action.

Please contact Joe Hailey, Corporate Relations Officer with United Way of King County, at (206) 461-8454 or jhailey@uwkc.org with any questions you have and please seriously consider providing financial support for this important work!

Community and Other Plans

Ask local officials the following questions about your community's disaster/emergency plans.

·         What hazards are most likely?

·         How will I get alerts and warnings?

·         What is the advice and plans for sheltering and evacuation for the hazards that may impact the community?

·         Are there emergency contact numbers I should have for different situations?

·         Are there opportunities for preparedness education and training?

·         Does my community have a plan?

·         Can I obtain a copy?

·         What does the plan contain?

·         How often are plans updated?

·         What should I know about this plan?

·         What hazards does it cover?

Fremont News

The event began in 1989 but it wasn't until 1992 when a group of streakers decided to ride their bikes through the parade route naked

Over Solstice Weekend, June 17th - 19th, over 60 art cars, and their car-tists, will be at the Fremont Fair as the Seattle Art Car Blowout (SACBO.)  Come party with these practical yet creative folks, and enjoy their display from the inside.

On Wednesday, June 15th, at Noon at Gasworks Park, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual picnic, rain-or-shine, in the shelter at our waterfront industrial park.

Our canal never saw a mule named Sal; it's nowhere near 15 miles long; but it sure has low bridges just like the Erie Canal

The gears are oiled and the tires are inflated, but there are still a couple things that cyclists need to do to ride in the Fremont Arts Council's 28th Annual Fremont Solstice Parade on June 18.

Do a scavenger hunt in free-thinking Fremont, otherwise known as the Center of the Universe.
