May 27, 2016
Hello

Greetings from California, and happy Memorial Day Weekend! I hope you're able to do something extra special and relaxing during you long weekend. If you're in town be sure to catch the one night gala event Panel Jumper, Chapter 2 tonight. This is a comic book themed cabaret event. The Panel Jumper is a quirky documentary-style program that unearths the seldom-celebrated, always colorful tales of comic book culture. Show up in your favorite comic book costume to get $1 off drinks. Tickets are only $10. Poor Mans Whiskey and Pole Cat will be playing tonight at Nectar, and Dain Norman will be at Stone Way Cafe.

This Saturday is the final day to participate in Tai Chi at Transformational Oncology Center, LLC with Dr. Fred Russo. Learn Tai Chi, acupressure, breathing exercises, how to release stress, immune system strengthening, and how to clear negative energy. Balance your mind, body, and spirit before transitioning into the month of June. This is definitely an experiential learning opportunity you don't want to pass up. Be sure to bring a friend!

On Wednesday, Nectar Lounge will be hosting a Benefit for Norman Baker. Seattle-based musician Norman Baker recently lost a significant amount of his musical gear as a result of a car break-in. Come out to show your support for Norman and the Seattle music scene! There will be a donation jar for gear replacement and 80% of the cover will go to his cause. What a great way to give back to the community while enjoying a night out at the same time. Be sure to get your tickets

Talk to you in June, and as always...

Have a great weekend!

Seattle's 2016 labor laws

Did you know changes to Seattle labor laws went into effect

April 2016? For any employer in Seattle, not knowing these laws could lead to a lot of trouble--the expensive kind. You can read about these changes here to help you avoid legal issues.

Still, sometimes just knowing the law isn't enough and you might have more questions. So, we decided to go a step further and host a free educational labor law standards workshop with our partner, Wendy Gillihan of the City of Seattle's Labor Standards Advisory Commission. This is a rare opportunity to get access to this level of expertise (especially for free!) and attending is as simple as your RSVP to join us TuesdayMay 24th, from 8:30-10:30am at Fred Wildlife Refuge located on Capitol Hill at 128 Boylston Ave East

On Saturday, May 28th, meet with friends and neighbors at Patrick Place Apartments for a community clean-up, starting at 9:30a.

Seattle's hostels allow travelers not only to visit on a budget, but also to stay in some of the best locations in the city-right across from Pike Place, in the fun Fremont neighborhood, or close to the University of Washington.

This afternoon, about a dozen protesters stormed into City Council chambers and then the Mayor's office. Their demand? Don't sweep the Jungle, a stretch of unpermitted homeless encampments along the I-5.

The public can comment on the proposal through June 2 by emailing Nick Welch at nicolas.welch@seattle.gov, or by mail at City of Seattle, OPCD, Attn: Nick Welch, PO Box 34019, Seattle WA 98124-4019.
