 Lawn Aeration
Lawn Aeration Diagram
September is the perfect lawn renovation month for our area. Aeration is a key step in the renovation process. Aeration is one of the most important cultural practices available for your lawn. Aeration is the process of removing thousands of small cores of soil 1" to 3" in length from your lawn. This process helps control thatch, improves the soil structure, helps create growth pockets for new roots, and opens the way for water and fertilizer to get to the roots of your lawn.
Thatch on your lawn's soil works like a thatched roof. It sheds water and prevents fertilizers and insect controls from moving freely into the soil. Thatch that has become too thick can require a major lawn renovation. Aeration helps thatch to break down naturally by mixing the soil cores into the thatch and speeding up the decomposition process of the thatch.
Call our Landscape Division at 636-239-6729 for professional help with Core Aeration and all your fall lawn maintenance.

Benefits of Planting Treessunny-tree-boughs.jpg

Most often, we plant trees to provide shade and beauty for our landscapes. These are great benefits, but trees also provide other less obvious benefits.

* Trees are often planted as living memorials or reminders of loved ones or to commemorate events in our lives.
* Even though you may own the trees on your property, your neighbors benefit from them as well. Through careful planning, trees can be an asset to your entire community.
* Tree-lined streets have a "traffic calming" effect. Traffic moves more slowly and safely.
* Trees can be placed to screen unwanted views or noise from busy highways.

National Indoor Plant Week
What is National Indoor Plant Week? It's a Celebration!!!
Various houseplants at Hillermann Nursery & Florist
National Indoor Plant Week was established to increase public awareness of the importance of indoor plants and their many attributes. Only some of which include cleaning the air we breathe...we like to say, "The oxygen doesn't arrive until the plants arrive." Statistics have proven that indoor plants increase morale in the workplace and homes. The plant is such a miraculous living thing.
Real life office studies have been conducted to measure the direct relationship between clinical health, complaints and plant installations. Recorded health improvements in offices where interior plants were added were significant. Results show a large reduction among employees in the areas of fatigue, headache, coughs and their overall well-being rose dramatically.
Further, numerous studies have shown that plants have a positive psychological impact on people. According to a recent study, employees exposed to interior plant settings demonstrated better attitudes, positive emotions such as happiness, friendliness and assertiveness.

Bee a Good Garden Host: Make a Bee Bath
From Garden Therapy
Bee Bath photo from GardenTherapy.ca
Creating a bee-friendly garden means more than just planting flowers. You certainly want to attract them with gorgeous blooms, but while they are in your garden you will want to give them a place to collect water: a pond, fountain, or a bee bath. A bee bath is easy to make and care for in your home garden, and it's a nice touch to set out for your pollinating guests. After all, without those busy workers in the garden, you wouldn't have as many beautiful blooms or fresh vegetables and fruit to harvest.
