Dear Friends,
I would like to wish you all a very happy and blessed Easter this Sunday. May this holy week have great significance and bring you the joy of the risen savior. We will be closed on Easter Sunday so our staff can enjoy the holiday with their families.
We had a good turn out and lots of fun at our Spring Kick-Off this past Saturday. Thank you to all who attended and for those who participated in the activities. See some pictures from the event below.
If you had insect problems on your non-edible trees and shrubs last year, early spring is a good time to use a systemic insect drench to protect them. Fertilome Systemic Insect Drench is a good choice that will protect for 12 months (available in our garden center).

The Legend of the Passion Flower Vine
The Passion Flower Vine is called so because it represents the suffering of Christ on the cross.
The filaments represent the crown of thorns, the 10 petals and sepals represent the 10 faithful apostles present at the crucifixion, the top 3 stigmata represent the 3 nails used to nail Christ to the cross, the lower anthers represent the 5 wounds (4 by nails and 1 by lance) the pointed leaves represent the lance and the tendrils represent the whips.
Passion Flower Vine plants will be available in May.

Prevent Fire Blight -
Now Is The Time to Spray!
Fire Blight is a disease that can affect apple and pear trees including ornamental apple and pear trees. Bradford and Cleveland ornamental pears often get this disease. The tips of the branches die off and look as if they have been burned with fire. If it spreads and infects most of the branches, it can kill the tree. Your first spray should be when the blossom are swelling and then spray every 4 days during bloom time. Use Fertilome Fire Blight Spray available in our garden center at $14.99 for a 2 oz. jar that will make 2 1/2 gallons of spray.

Rain Barrels and Rain Chains
Rain Barrels
Rain barrels are great for storing water from a downspout when it rains until you need it when there is less rain. Catch the rainwater in spring. Then, water your gardens with the water you saved during the hot, dry summer months. Conserve water and save on your water bill when you water your plants with rainwater instead of tap water, which might have chemical treatments. We have several styles and sizes of rain barrels available. 40 gallon to 65 gallon rain barrels are available ranging from $108.99 to $145.99.
Rain Chains
Originating hundreds of years ago in Japan, Rain Chains act as linked funnels and are a decorative alternative to a regular gutter downspouts. They make delicate music as they guide the water to the ground during rain showers. Many styles will develop a patina over time, adding to their character and charm. Several rain chain styles are available ranging from $42.99 to $99.99.

Featured Adoptable Pet
Hello kitty lovers! My name is Rocksteady! I am a rather large boy, about one and a half years old, who came to the shelter as a lost pet with my friend Bebop. We love to play and lie together while we snooze. It would be great, but not necessary, for us to be adopted together. Some folks think we may be brothers. I am very loving and can be very laid back. My fur is a gorgeous mix of white and orange, like the color of a "dreamsicle popsicle"- that's probably because I am a "dream" of a kitty. So if you are looking for a new feline friend, I am waiting to meet you!
Love, Rocksteady
