Dormant Oil Spray

Horticultural Oil products available at Hillermann Nursery and Florist        Think back and remember if you had insects such as aphids, scale, mites, tent caterpillars, and others on some of your trees and shrubs last summer. If you did, a dormant spray would give you a jump on the expanding numbers of these insects. This is a great treatment for evergreens, roses, ornamentals and fruit trees. If you do this in winter or early spring, you can avoid burning leaves as the weather warms up. There are several types of dormant oil available in our garden center. Stop by and ask us for advice on the product that will best suit your specific needs.

These Crops Are Cooler Than You Think!
Botanical Interests lettuce seed packet cover
Cool season varieties are best harvested in cooler temperatures of spring or fall. The temperature is important because heat can encourage bolting (premature flowering), which causes bitterness in crops like lettuce and cilantro. Other crops, like broccoli or cabbage, may fail to produce a harvest-able crown or head if temperatures are consistently warm, and they aren't able to mature in cooler temperatures. Many plants, including cool season varieties, are able to convert starch into sugar, which lowers their freezing point. This "sweet" conversion not only protects plants from frost, but also can make for a literally sweeter harvest.
Several cool season varieties can be started in early spring in the garden and later be rotated out for warm season crops. Botanical Interests seed, available in our garden center, offers many heat-tolerant and bolt-resistant cool season crops, making home gardening more successful!

Adoptable cat Tiffany from Franklin County Humane Society Featured Adoptable Pet

My name is Tiffany! I am a beautiful gray Tabby, who was given up by my owners because they can no longer care for me. I am about four years, and I love to have my chin scratched and belly rubbed. I would love to leave this shelter for a fur-ever home where I can lay in the sun, lie in your lap, play with toys, and have the wonderful life I deserve. Won't you come to get me soon so we can start our life as best buddies? I am waiting with kitty kisses and purring to see you!
       Love, Tiffany
