Dear Friends, 'Tis the season for industry travel. This trip took four of us from Hillermann's north to Chicago to visit the Ball Horticultural field days. This is the world headquarters of some of the best new and improved annual, perennial, veggie and ornamental plant introductions! WOW! We saw a new Easy Wave series of petunias that truly look like velvet called the Velour series. In addition, the geraniums just keep getting bigger and better. Dave and Patty have their work cut out for them as they decide what we should grow and offer our customers in 2015. In fact, in this newsletter you will find several selections they would like to get your thoughts on...so let the voting begin!! We would love to hear from you. The photo album shares some of our travels and below you will find a series of photos we would love to hear your opinion on!! Thank You, Sandi Click here for the photo album of the Ball Field Days.See the pictures below and let us know your favorite variety.

Reduce Chances of Mosquito Bites
As some of you may have heard, some reports of West Nile Virus have come in recently for our area. West Nile Virus is an infectious disease that first appeared in the United States in 1999. Though most people do not show any symptoms when infected, others can suffer very severe complications. Mosquitoes that have been infected by the virus transmit West Nile. Mosquitoes can also transmit other serious diseases. Here are some ways to reduce your chances of getting bites: - Avoid outdoor activities between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active; if you must be outdoors, be sure to wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, shoes and socks.
- Wear light colored clothing as mosquitoes are generally attracted to dark colors.
- Use insect repellent and follow the label directions.
- Eliminate areas of standing water near your home.
- Make sure all roof gutters are clean and properly draining.
- Clean and chlorinate pools, outdoor saunas and hot tubs; keep them empty when not in use and drain water from pool covers.
- Change water in bird baths weekly.
- Use screens on windows to keep mosquitoes out.
