Dear Friends, Last week Patty (our plant buyer) and I had the opportunity to spend the day in St Louis with industry friends visiting City Seeds Urban Farm, (a Gateway Greening initiative providing job training and therapeutic horticulture to individuals who are homeless and underserved). This place was clean, full of great produce and buzzing with activity. We were there on a harvest day. From the Urban Farm we went to the Citygarden between 8th and 10th Streets in downtown St. Louis. This is such a beautiful garden in the heart of the city, bringing softness, safety and freshness to the area. The water features were filled with young children and their families picnicking. Once we left Citygarden we traveled to the rooftop garden at Four Seasons Hotel overlooking the Mississippi River and the Arch. This was another WOW moment. We met with the caretakers of the gardens and had a Farm to Table luncheon there. It was a great day and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the differences in Horticulture in St Louis. Below is a small gallery of photos I hope you enjoy! Sandi Click here for a photo album.

The Top 5 Watering Myths During the hottest part of the summer, it's especially important to make the most of every drop of water. With so much information available, it can be challenging to separate fact from fiction. Here are five common myths about watering: 1. Plants need 1 inch of water per week Although the "inch-a-week" recommendation is often cited as a rule of thumb, the truth is that plants vary widely in their water needs. Young seedlings and new transplants have limited root systems and need a consistent supply of moisture, so they may need daily watering if the weather is sunny and hot. Established trees and shrubs, on the other hand, may need supplemental watering only during extended dry spells because they have root systems that are more extensive. The amount of water a plant needs depends on a number of factors, including the type of plant, its stage of growth, type of soil, weather and time of year. Click here for more.
