Flavor of SLO 2015

We hope everyone enjoyed the 7th annual Flavor of SLO! We could not have done it without help from our ROTARACT SLO partners.

Thank you to all of our event sponsors: Glenn Burdette, City of SLO, Wacker Wealth Partners, Left Coast Tees, KSBY, Heritage Oaks Bank, San Luis Print and Copy, The Mortgage House, Madonna Inn, and Judy Kambestad in honor of Katchy Andrews.

We also want to thank all of the restaurants, wineries and breweries that came out: Adelaida Cellars, Bang the Drum Brewery, Barrelhouse Brewing, Broken Earth Winery, Cal Poly Chocolate, Cass Wines, Castoro Cellars, Central Coast Brewing, Cottonwood Canyon Winery, Downtown Boba, Fattoush, Firestone Walker Brewery, Foremost Wine Company, Old San Luis BBQ, Petra, Rebel Coast Winery, See Canyon Hard Cider, Spikes, Splash Cafe, and Tooth & Nail Winery.

Special thanks to our musical guests Rio Salinas featuring Louie Ortega, as well as our great volunteers from Cal Poly EWB IMPACT and Greek Week. We can't wait to see everyone next May for another wonderful afternoon of tasting and fun!

Youth Board Accepting Applications

Our Youth Board is now accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year!  This unique volunteer experience  gives thirty-five students across the county an opportunity to make a direct impact on their peers by addressing the needs in the community and awarding grants to local organizations. They will serve as members of a Board of Directors, giving them a chance to represent the youth in the community, connect with community leaders and provide feedback about youth issues. Students must be in grades 9-12 and are required to commit at least one full term (September through May). Get more information or download an application online.
Save the Date for KidSpree and Stuff the Bus

United Way is starting to plan for our two annual back-to-school programs,
KidSpree and Stuff the Bus! Both of these programs are designed to help send kids back to school with the tools they need to succeed.

KidSpree, which will take place August 2, 2015 at Kohl's in SLO and Paso Robles, helps children get school clothes and more. Students K-12 are nominated by local non-profits and are paired with a local community volunteer to help them shop for the items they need most.

Stuff the Bus, will take place August 17-21 at various locations around SLO County.  During this five day event the community is invited to literally stuff a big yellow school bus with school supplies. Last year we collected over $31,000 in supplies including notebooks, backpacks, and more.

Make sure to save the date for these two important events, so you too can help kids in our community start the 2015-16 school year out with the supplies and clothes they need.

Opportunity Exchange

Do you know of a nonprofit in need of cubicles? Check out the Opportunity Exchange, a listing of in-kind donation needs from nonprofit agencies, and items available for donation. The list, which is updated biweekly, is used to connect local businesses with items available, such as furniture or office equipment, with specific nonprofit needs.

Use this form on our website to enter your need or available item. Once the list is compiled, it will be available here
