Grants Available for Youth
|
The United Way Youth Board is now accepting applications for $1,000 grants to youth driven projects in 2015. Youth Board members will carefully deliberate the applications, and select the projects which are most meaningful. In the past 6 years, the board has funded a variety of projects including workshops for SLO High Peer Mediators, book clubs for Restorative Partners Juvenile Hall Project, and hydration stations for CAPSLO Project Teen Health.
Projects must be youth driven, with the aid of an adult mentor and a sponsor organization to act as fiscal agent. Applications are due by 4:00 PM on Friday, December 12th. For more information about the United Way Youth Board or to download a grant application, visit www.unitedwayslo.org/youth-board.

This Fall, United Way's Money Talks program entered its 5th year and is now being taught at three local high schools, Nipomo High School, San Luis Obispo High School, and Paso Robles High School. Dedicated volunteers present five thoughtful sessions about money management and financial literacy to high school seniors. We are very thankful for our our presenters, Norman Baxter, Ryan Caldwell, Anne Crabbe, Heidi Cummings (pictured above), Lance Parker, and Dominique Simonian. If you would like to volunteer, contact Mari Poturica at volunteers@unitedwayslo.org or (805) 541-1234.

For the past 17 years, the San Luis Obispo community has generously provided our County's homeless with a wonderful home-cooked Christmas Day dinner, live entertainment and much needed care packages containing brand new sleeping bags, hooded sweatshirts, winter jackets and toiletries. The Jewish Community initiated this event in order to serve those with the greatest need on Christmas Day and their goal again this year is to be able to help those without shelter to stay warm and protected from the elements during the upcoming winter months. With the help of SLO Camp and Pack, your donation of $20 will buy a brand new winter jacket for someone in need. Visit www.unitedwayslo.org or call (805) 541-1234 for more information.
