St. Johns Cultural Council Announces
Program Coordinator Contract Position 


Program Coordinator Contract Position -  a 9 Month Contract Position funded through a grant from the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs (DCA).
Start Date:  October 1, 2015.  End Date:  June 30, 2016

Position may be extended contingent on renewal and funding level of DCA grant.
Contractor should have college degree, preferably in an arts discipline, and excellent communications skills, fundraising experience, and ability to work with a variety of people and tasks in a fast paced environment.  Evenings and weekend availability is a must.

Creative Pinellas, St. Petersburg

The Board of Directors of Creative Pinellas seeks a dynamic individual to contract with the board serving in the capacity of Executive Director.  This is a contract position with a contract value ranging from $70,000 - $85,000 depending on the experience of the successful applicant.  The board is accepting resumes and proposals through Sept. 1, 2015 to fill this position. 
There are two additional contract positions in the organization: Community Relations Director and Media Manager.  The successful applicant will work directly with these individuals to further the goals of the agency. 

 
St. Johns County Fiscal Year 2016 
Budget Hearings

In conjunction with the annual budget process, members of the community are invited to attend two public hearings to provide feedback on the Fiscal Year 2016 St. Johns County Budget. The public hearings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on September 8 and September 24 in the Board of County Commissioners Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View. AUDITIONS

Tap Your Way into Saint Augustine Ballet's Nutcracker 2015
Saint Augustine Ballet is calling for experienced tap dancers, male and female, between the ages of 8 and 18 to open auditions on Saturday, August 22, 2015 for their 2015 production of The Nutcracker. Auditions will be held at Abella's School of Dance located at 1711 Lakeside Avenue, Unit #9 in Saint Augustine. Registration for tap begins at 12:30p.m. with auditions starting at 1:00p.m. Dancers must be at the intermediate or advanced level. The choreography is not suitable for beginners.

Calling All Angels!
St. Augustine Ballet is in need of a few good angels. All female and male students of dance who are five to seven years old are invited to Saint Augustine Ballet's open audition for the part of an angel in their seventh annual production of The Nutcracker. Auditions are open to all dance students regardless of dance studio affiliations. Auditions will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Abella's School of Dance. Abella's is located at 1711 Lakeside Avenue, Unit 9, in Saint Augustine, Florida 32084.

2015 Florida Book Awards Competition (Deadline: January 14)
The Florida Book Awards has kicked off its tenth annual competition with a call for entries in nine categories. Books can be entered into the competition by anyone (e.g. publisher, author or literary agent) via the online submission form. To be eligible, entries must have both a copyright date between Jan. 1, 2015, and Dec. 31, 2015, and an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). For more info, visit here.

 
Artwork Sought for University of Florida Chemistry/Chemical Biology Building - Gainseville, FL (Deadline: September 26)  
This new building project at the University of Florida is seeking artwork with some combination of an educational and scientific scheme. A possible Florida-related theme might also be suggested - solar energy, environmental fragility. "CELEBRATE ST. AUGUSTINE" EXHIBIT CALL FOR ART

Artwork may be delivered to the Art Association on Tuesday, September 1, noon to 6pm or Wednesday, September 2, noon to 4pm. The entry fee is $15. STAAA members may enter one piece; all entries will be accepted. Eligible works by member artists may include 2D and 3D pieces in any style that reflect St. Augustine's landscape, people, wildlife, history, culture and more. Works must have been created within the past three years.

Call to Artists for Paint the Beach Plein Air Art Festival - Fort Myers Beach, FL (Deadline: October 30)

 Planning is well underway for the 6th annual Paint the Beach, a plein air painting competition and art show. This festival is free to the public and will take place on November 2-8, 2015 on Fort Myers Beach. Paint the Beach will present over $3,000 in cash awards and prizes to the Plein Air painters. The first place winner will receive $1000 and a 1/3 page ad in Plein Air Magazine. Second Place winner receives $750 and Third Place $500. Several other cash and prize awards will be given. Call to Artists for Embracing Our Differences 2016 - Sarasota & Bradenton, FL (Deadline: January 4)

Embracing Our Differences invites all artists to participate in its 13th annual outdoor art exhibit celebrating diversity and inclusion. 39 artists will be selected, and national and international submissions are encouraged. Final selections will be made by a three-judge panel of professional artists, curators, and art professionals and based on artistic excellence and originality in the reflection of the theme "enriching lives through diversity." $3,000 in awards will be presented. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries. The exhibition will be held in April and May at Sarasota's Island Park  and Bradenton's Riverwalk. For more info, visit here

Aaron Copland Fund for Music Invites Applications for Contemporary American Music Recording Projects (Deadline: January 15)
 The Aaron Copland Fund's Recording Program is designed to support projects that document and provide wider exposure for the music of contemporary American composers and/or develop audiences for contemporary American music through the distribution of recorded performances in physical and online media. The fund is interested primarily in supporting recordings of works by living American composers and those who are recently deceased and favors works that were composed more recently. DDCF Accepting Grant Proposals to Strengthen Performing Arts (Deadline: February 26)
Through its Fund for National Projects, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation awards up to $1 million in grants annually in support of important national projects in the professional nonprofit dance, jazz, presenting, and/or theater fields. Specifically, the fund supports projects that strengthen the national infrastructure of the nonprofit performing arts fields and those that improve conditions for the national community of performing artists in professional nonprofit dance, jazz, and theater. The St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library is looking for volunteers with computer experience to help archive their photo collection. Volunteers scan and document the images so they can be added to the online catalog. Other computer related projects are available as well. The Research Library is located in the Segui Kirby-Smith House (the old public library) on Aviles Street.  Parking for library volunteers is at the Oldest House on Charlotte and St. Francis Street.
