First-Class Relic of Saint Augustine Arrives from Vatican

 

After more than four years of planning and coordination with officials in Italy and at the Vatican, the Diocese of St. Augustine has acquired a first-class relic of our patron saint, Augustine of Hippo. It is on loan to the diocese for the 450th Anniversary celebration of the City of St. Augustine and the founding of America's first Catholic Parish. Marineland Dolphin Adventure Now Offers Photography and Painting Workshops 

Marineland Dolphin Adventure has teamed with Ocean Art Gallery to offer a variety of painting and photography workshops under the personal instruction of professional artists to provide artists of all levels the opportunity to capture the special beauty of Marineland, by brush or camera.

Friends of Anastasia Island Branch Library 
Two-Day Book Sale Sept, 18-19, 2015

124 Seagrove Main Street, St. Augustine Beach.  Dates and times are Friday, September 18: 10 am - 6 pm, and Saturday, September 19: 10 am - 5 pm.  

Approximately 10,000 books/items will be available.  Proceeds from the book sale are used for the library to purchase items on its "wish list." The wish list includes the summer Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP) for children, adult/children/teen book collections and programs as well as specialized equipment (e.g., movie screen, furniture) needed to implement targeted programs.

Commissioner Meet & Greet

James K. Johns, St. Johns County District 1 Commissioner, is hosting a District 2 Meet and Greet from 

6 to 8 p.m. on July 16 

at the Solomon Calhoun Center, 1300 Duval Street, St. Augustine. The meeting will provide St. Johns County residents with the opportunity to meet Commissioner Johns and provide feedback regarding county programs, initiatives, facilities, and other topics not currently on a Board of County Commission agenda. Residents of the County are cordially invited to attend and participate in the informal question and answer session and provide Commissioner Johns with insight into what they believe are the priorities for their district and St. Johns County as a whole. Johnny Cash hits! In 38 musical numbers, a mosaic of American
experience is pieced together in Ring of Fire.
  • Bring resume, head shot, a monologue, be prepared to read from the script; bring an instrument if you plan to perform at the audition
  • Arrive 30 minutes in advance to fill out audition forms and warm up.
  • Rehearsal schedules will be determined by cast availability. Please bring a list of conflict dates for rehearsals.
  • Performers cast in the show must be available for all performances.
  • All Limelight actors are volunteers; there is no pay.

Saint Augustine Ballet to Hold Auditions for The Nutcracker

Call to Artists for Last Exit: Painting at The Bakehouse Art Complex - Miami, FL (Deadline: August 1)

The Bakehouse Art Complex offers affordable studio and shared workshop spaces, artist advancement and exhibition opportunities to professional emerging and mid-career artists. For its September exhibition, Last Exit: Painting, artists are invited to submit artworks addressing painting and its current relevance. Call to Artists for Embracing Our Differences 2016 - Sarasota & Bradenton, FL (Deadline: January 4)

Embracing Our Differences invites all artists to participate in its 13th annual outdoor art exhibit celebrating diversity and inclusion. 39 artists will be selected, and national and international submissions are encouraged. Final selections will be made by a three-judge panel of professional artists, curators, and art professionals and based on artistic excellence and originality in the reflection of the theme "enriching lives through diversity." $3,000 in awards will be presented. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries. The exhibition will be held in April and May at Sarasota's Island Park  and Bradenton's Riverwalk. For more info, visit here 


 

Call to Artists for Space Coast Art Festival Poster Contest - Port Canaveral, FL (Deadline: August 17)

The Space Coast Art Festival is accepting submissions for its poster contest. All work must be unpublished, original art created since

2013. Artwork can be any reproducible two-dimensional work

(painting, drawing, photograph, mixed media, etc.) The winning design will also be reproduced on a T-shirt and may be used in Space Coast Art Festival advertising materials. For more info, visit here. 

 

Call to Visual Artists for 2015 Miami Photo Salon Second Edition, Miami, FL (Deadline: August 8)

Miami Photo Salon is an International Photography Festival that takes place during Art Basel week every year. The goal of this project is to create a salon-style event for photographers to showcase and exhibit work to huge international audiences. This event will take place at Spectrum Art Fair in Downtown Miami, where foot traffic between visiting art fairs will bring in thousands of visitors. Dates for the event: December 1-6, 2015. Entry fee is $45 and is non-refundable and non-transferable. Multiple entries or different bodies of work are allowed, as well as collaborations. For more info, visit here.

The St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library is looking for volunteers with computer experience to help archive their photo collection. Volunteers scan and document the images so they can be added to the online catalog. Other computer related projects are available as well. The Research Library is located in the Segui Kirby-Smith House (the old public library) on Aviles Street.  Parking for library volunteers is at the Oldest House on Charlotte and St. Francis Street.
