The St. Johns Cultural Council will be hosting Susan M. Saloom for the duration of her service year as an ALA/C2SC AmeriCorps VISTA with Americans for the Arts, June 22 - August 29, 2015 (Monday - Friday) in the SJCC office. The St. Johns Cultural Council is a member of Americans for the Arts' Local Arts Agency Network.  


Ms. Saloom is a representative of the National Initiative, Americans for the Arts (AFTA), and of AmeriCorps VISTA C2SC, and will continue to act as a capacity builder for the National Directory and database.  She will be updating the NIAHM webpage with news articles, national ArtsMeet calendar items, spotlights and media links.  While continuing to make connections for community military and veteran arts initiatives in the Southeast region of the United States, she is willing to hold informative outreach sessions or training opportunities for facilitators in communities based on the Arts Deployed webinars that will be in place as of June 24.

Film Florida's Annual Meeting including elections will take place on Sunday, June 28 - Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in St. Augustine, the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States.



Abella's School of Dance Holds Open House and July Summer Intensives   Abella's School of Dance will offer weekly Summer Dance Intensives through July 29, 2015 for dancers eight to eighteen years old.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis and classes are open to both new and experienced dancers.

 A special Ballet Master Class with Orlando Molina will take place July 21 through July 23.Molina is an ABT Certified Teacher. Molina has extensive international dance education, stage performance, and teaching experience. He received his Diploma as a Dancer/Teacher from the Cuban School of Ballet before  joining the Ballet Clasico de la Habana where he toured internationally.

Auditions for Beyond Therapy
6 p.m. Monday, June 22

Bring resume, head shot, a monologue, and be prepared to read from the script.

Arrive 30 minutes in advance to fill out audition forms and warm up.

Rehearsal schedules will be determined by cast availability. Please bring a list of conflict dates for rehearsals.

Performers cast in the show must be available for all performances.

All Limelight Theatre actors are volunteers; there is no pay.

Saint Augustine Ballet to Hold Auditions for The Nutcracker

Location: Abella's School of Dance. 

1711 Lakeside Avenue, Unit 9, in Saint Augustine, Florida 32084. All dancers, male and female, who are currently studying ballet are encouraged and invited to try out for a part. Call to Artists for Last Exit: Painting at The Bakehouse Art Complex - Miami, FL (Deadline: August 1)

The Bakehouse Art Complex offers affordable studio and shared workshop spaces, artist advancement and exhibition opportunities to professional emerging and mid-career artists. For its September exhibition, Last Exit: Painting, artists are invited to submit artworks addressing painting and its current relevance. Call to Artists for American Craft Today: Glass - Highlands, NC (Deadline: July 3)

On view September 5 through December 6, 2015, this juried exhibition showcases art glass produced by America's most skilled and visionary craftspeople. Any type of glass art is eligible as long as the primary medium is glass. The juror is Melissa George Post. A total of $5,500 will be awarded. Exhibition will be held at The Bascom Center for the Visual Arts (323 Franklin Road Highlands, NC 28741). For more info, visit  here. 


Call to Artists for The Decatur Artway - Decatur, GA (Deadline: June 22)

The Decatur Artway kicks off this year as Decatur's outdoor art gallery, featuring five selected sculptures scattered throughout the downtown square. Sculptures will be displayed on temporary loan for two years, creating a dynamic rotating collection of public art around town. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $2000. The installed work may be available for sale. Artwork sold as a result of the Decatur Artway will be subjet to a 20% commission, which will be deducted from the purchase price and retained by the Decatur Arts Alliance. Call to Artists for Embracing Our Differences 2016 - Sarasota & Bradenton, FL (Deadline: January 4)

Embracing Our Differences invites all artists to participate in its 13th annual outdoor art exhibit celebrating diversity and inclusion. 39 artists will be selected, and national and international submissions are encouraged. Final selections will be made by a three-judge panel of professional artists, curators, and art professionals and based on artistic excellence and originality in the reflection of the theme "enriching lives through diversity." $3,000 in awards will be presented. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries. The exhibition will be held in April and May at Sarasota's Island Park  and Bradenton's Riverwalk. For more info, visit here 


Call to Artists for Space Coast Art Festival Poster Contest - Port Canaveral, FL (Deadline: August 17)

The Space Coast Art Festival is accepting submissions for its poster contest. All work must be unpublished, original art created since

2013. Artwork can be any reproducible two-dimensional work

(painting, drawing, photograph, mixed media, etc.) The winning design will also be reproduced on a T-shirt and may be used in Space Coast Art Festival advertising materials. For more info, visit here. 


Call to Artists for Melbourne Main Street Mural Contest - Melbourne, FL (Deadline: June 30)

 Melbourne Main Street welcomes all artists to the 2015 "Paint the Town" Mural contest. Their goal is to transform Downtown Melbourne into a vibrant art destination with help from the local art community. They will be accepting submissions from now until June 30th, 2015. All murals are set to be complete by Friday, September 25th, 2015, when there will be an official unveiling and artist reception. Submit as a team, with your class, or on your own. Call to Visual Artists for 2015 Miami Photo Salon Second Edition, Miami, FL (Deadline: August 8)

Miami Photo Salon is an International Photography Festival that takes place during Art Basel week every year. The goal of this project is to create a salon-style event for photographers to showcase and exhibit work to huge international audiences. This event will take place at Spectrum Art Fair in Downtown Miami, where foot traffic between visiting art fairs will bring in thousands of visitors. Dates for the event: December 1-6, 2015. The St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library is looking for volunteers with computer experience to help archive their photo collection. Volunteers scan and document the images so they can be added to the online catalog. Other computer related projects are available as well. The Research Library is located in the Segui Kirby-Smith House (the old public library) on Aviles Street.  Parking for library volunteers is at the Oldest House on Charlotte and St. Francis Street.
