President's Message

April was an amazing month for ADAO. Leading with the Senate's unanimous passing of the 12th Annual Resolution establishing "National Asbestos Awareness Week", we began Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) with significant momentum. Thanks to The McOnie Agency, our GAAW materials were translated into 21 languages and distributed to 44 countries. The U.S. Surgeon General also issued the 5th awareness statement.

Our 2016 conference was simply spectacular!  Everyone agreed this was the best year ever.  If you missed it, you can still watch the presentations and events on Live Stream; or read a write-up of Earl Dotter's powerful exhibit, BADGES: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers; and watch the special video below of Doug Larkin, ADAO Co-founder, who continues to make a powerful and irreplaceable contribution to ADAO and the ban asbestos movement.

We ended the month with an amazing International Workers' Memorial Day (IWMD) with more global awareness, union mobilization, and action to ban asbestos than ever before!

The press coverage in April was incredible with articles in the Huffington Post, Canada's Globe and Mail, and Bloomberg BNA.  There is even an updated book, An Air That Still Kills, by Andrew Schneider and David McCumber.

So much was done this month to advance our cause, but we were also reminded exactly why we continue our fight as several Mesothelioma Warriors lost their courageous battles. We honor each Warrior with a graphic, offer their families our sincerest condolences, and reaffirm our commitment to ban asbestos.

Please spread the word about our efforts by sharing this newsletter on social media. Let's carry the powerful asbestos awareness and prevention message into May, when we celebrate and raise awareness for National Cancer Research Month!

We have never walked alone on the road to make ADAO the largest independent nonprofit dedicated to preventing asbestos-caused diseases through education, advocacy, and community. Our success is because of the hard work of our amazing community.

From the very beginning, ADAO co-founder Doug Larkin has and continues to give his all in our fight to ban asbestos. His years of wisdom, professional experience, passion, and love for Bill, his father-in-law, helped make ADAO what it is today.
