The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is pleased to sponsor photojournalist Earl Dotter, and his groundbreaking photography exhibit, "Badges: A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers."
The most recent work in a successful career documenting hazardous jobs throughout American history, "Badges," features ID badges worn by asbestos workers alongside historic photographs of work sites, product advertisements, vintage photos, and product catalogs from industrial companies, connecting the human faces to the industry. The exhibit, honoring the legacy of asbestos research and workers health advocate - Dr. Irving J. Selikoff, features real life workers who spent their lives unknowingly mining and manufacturing products containing a lethal amount of asbestos. The companies were aware of the deadliness of their products, just as they are aware today, yet in many cases these dangers were ignored. Tragically, little has changed since the photos were taken - asbestos is still legal and lethal in the United States and in many countries around the world. Read more...

ADAO is proud to share our latest infographic detailing facts and stats from the 2005-2014 ADAO Annual International Asbestos Awareness Conferences.
Without a ban, asbestos remains legal and lethal in the USA today, and imports continue. ADAO is the only U.S. nonprofit organizing annual conferences dedicated solely to preventing exposure and eliminating asbestos-caused diseases.
ADAO's conferences have brought together experts, victims, unions, and lawmakers to support our educational, advocacy, and community efforts. Over the last 10 years, 257 speakers from 14 countries including Acting Surgeon General Boris Lushniak have shared their knowledge and we have recognized 67 individuals and organization with our prestigious awards. Washington DC - April 2, 2015 - The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), which combines education, advocacy, and community to prevent exposure and ensure justice for asbestos victims, today announced its strong support for the statement from Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General, that reaffirms the dangers of asbestos. According to the statement: "National Asbestos Awareness Week is April 1-7 - a good time to remind Americans about the health dangers of asbestos exposure. Asbestos, a natural mineral fiber that is found in rock and soil, was widely used as insulation and fireproofing material in homes, commercial buildings, ships and other products, such as paints and car brakes. In recent years, asbestos use has decreased dramatically after it was linked to illnesses, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis." He continued, "because of its use in so many products, asbestos is still of special concern." Read more...
