COMMUNITY DIRECTIONAL SIGNS

Thanks to the combined efforts of the Aubrey 380 Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Aubrey, and Venable Royalty, LLC (Richard Rogers, Managing Partner), the first of a series of "Community Services" directional signs was recently erected at the intersection of US Hwy 377 and FM 428. More signs are forthcoming at major intersections around the Aubrey area.

Mayor Gary Hammett, Richard Rogers, David Painter

Richard Rogers, Managing Partner, Venable Royalty, LLC, donated the funds to the Aubrey 380 Area Chamber of Commerce, who in turn presented the money to the City of Aubrey to go forward with purchasing the signs. "Mayor Hammett came to me with this idea several months ago," said Rogers. "He wanted to increase the visibility of Aubrey's city center...Aubrey's entire community is working to rejuvenate and restore the downtown area. The signs will increase awareness. Signs on 377 work because they have so much exposure to traffic."

Chamber of Commerce Board President David Painter agrees. "Directional signage is a much needed addition to the 'Services' provided to new residents and visitors to our community. The image and perception of our entire community will be enhanced in the minds of visitors."

Aubrey Mayor Gary Hammett expressed his appreciation for the group effort. "I would like to thank Richard Rogers and David Painter for their efforts in getting the directional signs for the City of Aubrey. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Chamber and these individuals, these signs will draw more attention to the Downtown Area, the Business Community, and the Chamber of Commerce."

Small Business Owner Lessons
from Lady Gaga
In roughly four short years, Lady Gaga, the eccentric pop star phenom has become a household name by building an iconic brand that has resulted in earnings of nearly one hundred million dollars last year...A young Gaga, (born Stefani Germanotta) moved out of her parents' house, promised herself she would not ask for any financial support from her parents, and spent her teenage years singing, waitressing, hustling and grinding in cabaret clubs trying to find her niche...She finally obtained a deal with Interscope Records, who released her best-selling album, The Fame in 2008, and the rest is music history.
What can small business owners learn from Lady Gaga's business journey? We can learn that your brand is not just about your logo, products, and services, it's the personality of your business. Think of your business as a person and how it would think, feel, and interact with customers.*
In his article "Small Business and Entrepreneurship", James Bird Guess lists Lady Gaga's lessons that small business owners can use to build a powerful brand and spark gigantic growth.
  • Be Touchable
  • Stand for Something
  • Create a Community
  • Be Authentic

In the coming weeks I will expand on those lessons. Stay tuned and see how you can incorporate them into your business plan.
