Beginning in 2015, the Department of Homeland Security will implement a new Haitian Family Reunification Parole (HFRP) Program.
Currently, due to immigrant visa backlogs, U.S. citizens must wait years to be reunited with their adult or married children and their siblings. Lawful permanent residents (green card holders) must wait years to be reunited with their spouses and children.
Under this new program, qualified Haitian family members of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents with approved family petitions may come to the U.S. approximately two years before an immigrant visa is available for them. In other words, they can be in the U.S. while they wait in line for the chance to apply for a green card, rather than waiting in Haiti.
Once HFRP starts in 2015, the National Visa Center will send written notices to Haitians who have approved I-130 family petitions. More details about the program will be available in the next few months.
Warning: The program has not started yet, so you cannot apply for it. Beware of scammers who may attempt to take advantage of the Haitian community during this time. Also, individuals should not attempt to come to the U.S. illegally, as it will make them ineligible for the program.
