| President's Message: A Time to Celebrate Change
Dear Friends,
How did it happen? Here we are at year's end. 2012 brought much positive change for us ... the profession of coaching is evolving both locally and around the world. Globally, the International Coach Federation had one of its strategic planning meetings in Philadelphia and I had the honor of being featured along with local Board member Cheryl Vermey on the July "President's Message to Membership" featured on You Tube. In North America, we have a new Service Center and liaison - Matt Varney. And at ICFP, we have moved to a welcoming and wonderful new venue (NHS) for our monthly meetings, initiated local Community Coffees, and increased member volunteering through Coaching Sigs, the Buddy Coaching program and the Community Coach Connection - to name just a few recent changes.
In 2012, Membership in our chapter grew to an all-time high and member engagement continues to grow more robust. We have deepened our roots as a vital professional organization of coaches who are committed to professional development, mutual support and friendship!
We are poised to begin a new, exciting year. I am so grateful for all we've accomplished thanks to you, our members. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your 2012 President. I know with certainty that Clare Sautter's leadership and all of your active contribution will make 2013 another year of positive change and growth. With all my heart, I wish you and yours a wonderful Holiday Season!
Here's to new beginnings!
With heartfelt thanks,
Marjorie

December 20 Dinner Meeting:
Starry Night: Constellating the System!
| |
Speakers: Rosy Elliott and Jill Magerman

No person is an island; we're all part of complex systems--families, partnerships, teams, or communities. Systems are like spider webs, touch one strand and the whole structure moves. How can we work to harness this
power? This can be challenging for an individual coach. A relationship coach reveals the system to itself. Relationship systems have a natural drive toward evolution and /or resolution. By helping the system to see itself - its strengths, its obstacles, and its potential -the coach can create the ground conditions for the system to find its own answers.
There's a natural propensity for systems to organize themselves, through their members, around topics, much like planets constellate around suns and moons. Constellating the system is a method of revealing the voice of the system.
A constellation is a visual representation of the current status of the system on a particular topic. Constellating the system provides the raw data for planning. It's a 'quick and easy' method of providing a snapshot of the system, with all voices heard - not just the loud or powerful or extroverted voices or most appealing.
This presentation comes directly out of the core teachings of the Center for Right Relationship (CRR) whose program represents a blend of empirical, practical and theoretical approaches to relationship work forming a unified field theory of Relationship Systems Approach.
Created by Marita Fridjhon and Faith Fuller who bring years of experience working with teams, couples, organizations and families, the framework is derived from General Systems Theory, Process Work, Organizational Development, Appreciative Enquiry, Emotional Intelligence, Positive Psychology, and Co-active Coaching.
The mind loves to mull over what it already knows, resulting in getting stuck. Great coaches can use the body to go deeper, explore NEW territory, and mine for deeper meaning and potential. This experiential evening will support participants to get out of their heads and into their body, using the tool known as GEOGRAPHY, which has immediate value to our coaching work.
Using OUR organization, ICF Philadelphia - our strengths, our obstacles, our potential - as a living lab, we'll reveal how we constellate around particular topics, harness the wisdom of our system and plan how we can move toward greater strength as an organization, all while learning this powerful coaching tool we can use with our clients.

ICF Philadelphia Vice President, Marketing
ICF Philadelphia recently received our newly designed chapter logos from ICF Global. You may have noticed our updated look on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, emails, the newsletter, and soon you'll see it on our website! We're excited about this new look and eager to make the new logo available to all current ICF Philadelphia chapter members.
Consistent use of our logo, colors, visuals, etc. will enable us to maintain a clear, recognizable and unified brand identity, both within the ICF community and with all of our constituency groups.
We are in the process of designing our new website and look forward to having the new logo prominently displayed on each page! For now, you may download a copy of the new ICF Philadelphia logo by logging into the Member Area: www.philadelphiacoaches.org/login.php and go to the Member Resources page for logo agreement and download instructions.
To align with our new brand, we ask you to review the ways you are currently using the ICF Philadelphia logo (or any logo previously used by PACA, and the ICF Global logo), and replace the old with the new. Some of you have the logo on your website, email signature, business cards, forms, marketing materials, etc. Now is the time to update your use of the ICF logos-there are new logos for both chapter members and ICF Global members.
ICF Global members and/or credential holders will find their new logos and information on brand overview, identity guidelines and logo use by logging into the www.coachfederation.org/ site and reviewing the "Brand in a Box" page listed in the Assets and Tools area.
Join us TODAY in proudly displaying our new logo to express your alignment with the ICF brand!

By Brenda March, CPC, ELI - MP ICF Philadelphia Engagement Coordinator
If you're looking to cultivate new strategic alliances and want to meet more of the vibrant coaches who are members of ICFP, volunteering with ICFP is a great way to do that!
I am currently serving as engagement coordinator and would love to see you get more engaged and get more out of your membership! :-)
We are currently in need of the following positions:
- Librarian - We need a person to maintain & track our collection of books, CD's and other resources. The library will be stored at our new monthly meeting facility so no need to store and transport the library.
- Marketing - Our new VP of Marketing is looking for a few enthusiastic volunteers to support the marketing effort. A great chance to showcase your marketing talents.
- Communications - Join the Communications team and take your pick - you can write articles for the newsletter; coordinate community coffees or help keep, take photographs of our meetings and help keep our social media up-to-date. There's a lot to do to keep members and the community informed of ICFP's many activities.
- Sponsorships - Use your networking and sales skills to reach out to enlist monthly meeting, newsletter and website advertising sponsors.
- Conference Volunteers - our 2013 coaching conference provides many ways to show your talents and help make it the best conference ever!
- Corporate Coaching SIG Facilitator - This role can be fulfilled via conference call or an in-person meeting prior to the monthly meeting. The facilitator brings topics of interest to the group related to coaching in a corporate environment. Help create this opportunity for sharing resources and expertise for coaches involved in corporate/executive coaching.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities or would like to get involved but are not sure how just yet, please contact me by phone or email. My contact information is provided below. There are jobs big and small waiting for you at ICFP! I look forward to hearing from you!

Member Profile:
Elizabeth C. Hechtman, MS, PCC, CPCC, VP, Education, ICFP
| |
Elizabeth Hechtman's coaching career arose from loss. Trained as a therapist, she became dismayed when therapy stopped being about self-actualization due to the advent of managed care. She lost a once loved profession and didn't know what to do next. A friend engaged a coach. Her friend shared, "I think this is what you are." She explained her coach was using a structured, effective methodology, which was very different from anything she'd experienced in therapy. But nothing moved Elizabeth until she witnessed her friend's transformation. Elizabeth figured maybe her friend's coach could help her through her dissatisfaction with her current career as a therapist.
She hired him, got lots of help and found her new career by the end of the first month as a client. Immediately she signed up for full time training and certification. Shortly afterward she obtained her PCC. Eventually she transferred all her therapy clients to coaching, and has now 30 years in the business. Elizabeth feels very fortunate to have found not one but two fulfilling careers. Elizabeth's ideal clients are those willing to develop a partnership with her. She loves her work, loves the clients she works with and loves learning and growing - the kind of love that grows out of being caring, attached to others and concerned with creating meaning and value for her clients. If she could have two weeks of free professional development, her dream would be 75% sitting at the feet of coaching giants, listening to them coach, questioning and being questioned in the art of brilliant, masterful coaching. The remaining time, she'd like to advance her marketing skills, learning from top earning coaches. In a life filled with accomplishments, Elizabeth is proudest of raising her son. As a single mother, she is proud of creating and sustaining both a fulfilling home life and a satisfying career for 30 years.
Asked what thoughts she would like to leave us with, she notes that it's important to remember the difference we make in people's lives - our clients are transformed and they bring their transformation into the world to their families, friends, co-workers and communities. Finally, she appreciates being involved with ICF Philadelphia. The quality, talent and generosity of the organization and members are very meaningful for her.
