Transition Update

  •  This past Sunday the Temple's Board and other Temple leaders met with Rabbi Janet Offel who is the Director of Transition Management for the URJ.  Rabbi Offel led an insightful workshop on leadership involvement in transition management.
  • The Rabbi Search Committee is in the process of conducting first round interviews with candidates for the Interim Rabbi position.  We have received strong resumes from the majority of interim Reform Rabbis seeking interim positions to start on July 1, 2016, and we are excited about Shir Tikva's prospects.   Candidates are enthusiastic about our congregation and the opportunity to work with us.  We look forward to proceeding to the second round of interviews with a select number of candidates some time in November, most likely following the URJ's Biennial Meeting which ends November 8, and we will keep you posted on our progress.
  • Thursday November 19 at 7:00 p.m. we have another opportunity to update you on transition efforts.  Each transition committee will give a report on progress thus far and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers.  Both the Rabbi Search Committee and the Operations Committee met last week and continue to make progress. The evening will begin with wine and cheese and an opportunity to "schmooze".
  • Friday, December 11 at 6:15 p.m.- Recognition Simchat Shabbat for Rabbi Gold and Festive Hanukkah Oneg.
The Congregational Engagement Committee, in collaboration with the TST Holiday Committee is planning the evening which will include our traditional community Hanukiah lighting. Details will be forthcoming.
  • As always we value your input and questions. Please feel free to correspond with us at transition@shirtikva.org.  All questions will receive a response from one of our chairs.

CJP invites you to its Genesis Forum
On the topic of "The Use and Abuse of Power in Jewish Tradition"

From the Bible to the Talmud to Jewish philosophy, Jewish texts have focused on the nature of political power within the family, and within community and organizational governance structures. This Genesis Forum will survey many of these texts and focus on fundamental questions about how power works, how it gets corrupted and what we can do within a framework of ethics to keep personal power in check. This class, which is accessible to all, will survey topics such as the Jewish attitude to power, why it's so easy to abuse power, how we should respond when religious figures abuse power, and the role of a follower in monitoring and curbing the power of leaders.
Bring your own lunch, if you'd like. Beverages are available. This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. For more information and the full schedule please visit cjp.org/genesis.

Genesis Forum meets at CJP (126 High Street, 02110) on the following Wednesdays from 12:00-1:15 PM: Nov. 11, Dec. 9, Jan. 13, Feb. 10, Mar, 2, Mar. 16, Apr. 6, May 11, and June 8.  Come to as many or few sessions as you are able.
